I was just sitting around trying to figure out why I have become addicted to wakeboarding.

There's the obvious things like, being outside on a sunny day, on the lake, with friends. Or the thrill of landing a trick for the first time.

All that stuff is cool. But I think, for me anyway, the fact that when I'm out behind the boat, everything else just kinda fades away. I don't think about work, money, or my love life( or lack thereof). It's the only thing that truley lets all the other BS slip away, and just enjoy the moment at hand.

I would like to hear what y'all think.

exactly!
u think the same way as me lol
i just love being out on the water, because it is the only time that i fully relax!
it lets all the BS that comes with the life package go away

1. Because I love my boat!

2. Because I love my crew!

3. Because I love boarding/surfing!

4. Because my crew is almost all female!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because I'm a dog!

(At least I'm honest!)

What other sport do you go with like 3-5 other people and just chill all day. And on top of that you get to wakeboard with loud tunes.

Because it makes for great stories around the fire with a few pops at the end of the day.

And for the chicks of course.

I ride because it is the best thing in the world to do (EX. the feeling you get when you land a new trick for the 1st time), and i relized that if i didnet ride that like 75% of the friends i have i would prolly have never met, the other 25% are people from school so that leaves me wakeboarders and classmates (so i see where most of my time is going to while im not at school and when i am at school i have wakeworld to turn to). I have gotten to many crazy responses when i tell people that i got excepted to my number one college choice that has a great prelaw program by the way, but now i dont know if i wanna go there because i wouldent be able to ride anymore, then i tell them i wanna go to florida southern cuz i could ride alot more and possiably get a schlorship for it. (then i get the response thats to far away, but i dont care if i can still ride)
so basicly i ride because that has just grown to be my life over the last 3 years, its part of me and it will never go away.

How does one even try to explain one of the most important things in their life?
Old     (twakess)      Join Date: Mar 2002       01-23-2006, 10:38 PM Reply
I ride to live and live to ride its just part of my life. If it wasn't for riding I wouldn't of meet so many grate friends. Some friends I have meet from wakeboarding are like a extended family.

Been going to the local lake and rivers since I was born. Wake boarding give me more freedom than any other thing you can do behind the boat. The the addiction of just actually being able to get off the couch, get in my own boat and go have a blast set in. Now it is all I wanna do.

3 things in order
1. Friends are the best
2. Relaxing. When I am on the end of that rope all of my worries go away.
3. The challenge of progression. It is amazing to land a new trick.
Showing up an being the first person on the lake and seeing nothing but glass is the coolest sight ever.
I always played sports in High School and this is something active that I can do with my friends.

takes my mind off of things...i'm not really sure how i got addicted but I like it because i can always go do it when it's warm
Old     (seattle)      Join Date: Mar 2002       01-24-2006, 1:22 PM Reply
Because I suck at it!

Every time I learn a new move, the gratification is too short, and I yearn to progress further. It's like being addicted to crack.

So many reasons...so instead here's a winter tip for everyone who loves to ride:

Place a sound track to your most epic day of riding. Then, when it's cold and rainy outside or your stuck at work whip out the MP3 player, close your eyes and let it come back to you. Mine happens to be Frou Frou "Let go" (the track that opens up for Pre Pop). Every time I play that song I'm reminded of why I love to ride because all the action and emotion from my most epic day comes rushing back.

A little dramatic I know but so is our devotion to this sport.

it gives me that feeling. the same one i get when im bombing a hill on a snowboard or while doing a big wallride on my skateboard.

Because the minute I take off my shoes and step down on to the soft interior of the boat I am no longer among the people who just dont understand. Once off the dock all the Reality that we have to deal with on a daily basis just cant make the swim. It,s like being on a whole different planet. The only worry is did we bring enough beer.
Old     (audiopro74)      Join Date: Jun 2005       01-24-2006, 8:56 PM Reply
Oh Ya............. The rush of sticking that trick for the first time.

To forget, it's a vicious circle.
Old    low_key_wake            01-25-2006, 11:22 PM Reply
Also, when the boat leaves the dock, no mater how small the lake, I feal like I just left civilization. Me, my homies, the famdamily, I mean the dam family. No b.s. just us, we all "get it" as was so eliquently said above.

Like your profile pic....shows you got good taste!

I like the "we all get it" statement.

Out in the boat, there is nothing facing you but the next set.

One thing I really enjoy is that everyone gets to be a champion. Everyone gets to be behind the boat with all eyes on them, waiting for the next big trick, be it a wake to wake or an invert. Everyone cheers and claps and hoots when the rider hits a new trick.

If we weren't wakeboarding with a boat full of friends and bikinis, we could be playing golf and discussing cheap viagra and checking out grandma's wrinkled legs-uuuugggghhhh!

Big Ed -- The delta is certainly on my list of spots to ride. I must admit though that I am spoken for by upupnaway and the guy who started this thread is my board b!$#% when Mike is not around...but like they say, you can look at the menu even though you're on a diet!

Get away from BS, For the guys, Trying to learn new tricks, etc...

But mainly I do it because it is the only place I am truly disconnected from life....no laptop, no cell phone, no email, no internet....it is the closest place I can go and work will not bother me. My work respects my time on the water and understands if I don't answer my cell phone or my email for a couple of hours.

(Otherwise the middle of southeast Alaska appears to be the only other place where this exists for me and it would be a hard flight to go there for a couple of hours every Saturday)

Oops and because of the entertaining crew, Northwest Hardcore,

It's the only kind of exercise that I enjoy that doesn't involve snow (I live in Florida).

If there is one thing that I truly thank my family for, it is the fact that they passed on to me the wonderful world of life on the water. I have always loved being on the water and boating. I am the only kid I knew who always had to be told to stay out of the water. I told them I was going to the park, (where the lake is of course) And my family always had to tell me "stay out of the water, your by yourself and we don't want something to happen to you" It never failed I would always come back soaking wet, even in jeans. I was always telling some dumb b.s. excuse why I "fell in." Boating is my love and wakeboarding makes it that much better. I find it very hard to get off the lake at the end of the day. I lose sleep at night waiting for morning glass. It is a freedom I hope I never lose.

I ride because it is my release from everything. Nothing comes close to bothering me. I also ride because in Colorado, it pretty much makes me an idividual with all my friends. Can't wait for water temps to allow for dry suits. ha

I ride for several reasons ...

First and foremost I started to ride to forget about my break up (6 years ago May) it worked and it got me hooked.

Now I ride to spend time with the people I love, my friends and my family! If it weren't for them I wouldn't be where I am today! Thanks Gary, Tim, Scott, Tate, Stacy, Robin, Misty, Jill, Danno and on and on!

I ride to stay competitive with myself, no one better to compete with than me. I ride as a mode to stay in shape, healthy and active, to meet new people and to have a great time in the sun on a HOT Delta day ... I ride because I'm still single and who knows, maybe one day, HE will get on one of the boats I ride. Until then I ride to have fun, release stess and forget about the things in the day or week that stressed me out ...

I'll have to say Toby hit it right on, different moods create different riding styles!

What would you rather do, work or ride with friends? My quote "Wakeboarding it's a lifestyle, NOT a hobbie!"

Wakeboarding is an athletic "lifestyle". With the fun of being on the water and cruising behind my MC on a perfect sunny day...there is nothing better.

I started wakeboarding last year and I was hooked after the first time... there is something about the whole life style that is addicting...too bad I live in Iowa where it's -10 outside right now!
