editing post after submission

Was curious why the edit thread function is only available for a short period of time, is there a specific reason for this?

Yeah, it's just there to fix mistakes. If somebody posts something and then an entire thread follows and then they change the original post, nothing makes sense and it breaks the discussion. The 10-minute edit window is there to avoid that.

That's the rare exception, but you can always contact a moderator if it's something so important that you don't think correcting it in a subsequent post is adequate.
