I have an x-45 with the stock prop. I have been thinking about swapping to a larger prop. I have some questions about it. How much will this cost? Is it something I can do myself? What would be the best "bang for my buck?" And, will I use less fuel with a larger prop. Thanks.

if you have one in your area go talk to a tech at a local prop shop, they should be able to get you set up and most will let you run / test prop's before you finally purchase. If you don't or jsut want a second opinion, give acme or OJ a call, they should be able to give you an informed opinion on what to get for your goals since you're probably not the first to reprop that boat.

Email Karl DeLoof at Board it up. Or check the ACME and OJ websites for a list of applications. You will need a prop puller to do it yourself. ACME sells a weekend saver kit with spare prop bag, puller, crescent wrench, lock nut and clevis pin.

As far as fuel consumption it will depend on your application. I switched to a larger prop for better hole shot and speed holding, but lost 2.5 mph at the top end. For a top end three or four blade expect to spend $350-550.

X45 uses a splined prop, should not necessarily require a puller.

As mentioned by Doug, call Karl, he's the prop man. You can also call Acme, real guys with real experience are available if you ask.

Let me know what prop you have on right now. There are markings on the hub. Also, what engine and how much non-stock ballast?
