What's the best or easiest way to see if you're stringers are rotted or not?

Well of coarse visual is the first. Second would be lightly knocking on them with a hammer so you can get an idea of the condition inside the stringer. There will be a different sound between a solid peice of wood and one with rot or water in it. I wouldn't recommend probing or poking into the srtinger as this is just a way for moisture to enter later unless it's sealed up afterwards. Push on the sides and look for movement.

Try tightening (lightly) the motor mount lag bolts. If they feel stripped, the stringers are gone.
