Those in Northern California still looking for a camping spot for Memorial Day weekend may want to give Bullards Bar a call. They just opened up shoreline camping.

Do you happen to know if they water level will stay where it is for a while, or will it start dropping soon. Usually the water is touching the trees in June and shoreline camping is not open until the end of June/beginning of July. We are going to Garden Point in mid July and if the water starts dropping now, that hike will be a drag!!

Erik, right now the water level is 1931ft which is about 25 feet from full. It is still going up a little each day but it will start going down in the coming months. Last year it went down about 5 feet from the end of May to the beggining of July. If you want to look at it here's a link. http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/queryDaily?BUL (Message edited by l1spoogy on May 15, 2007)

Here's a picture from the 4th of July last year. Garden point is in the background. The lake is 4 feet lower now than in this picture. So i would guess by july it would be 8 to 10 feet lower than the picture.

Is the shore camping boat access only? Are any of the shore sites accessible ny motorhome? I've only been to the lake once, but we did it by houseboat.

Tim - That is correct boat access only for shore camping. There are campsites that you can fit the RV in but they are not on the water.

Me and my friends will be camping at Emerald Cove at Bullards Bar for Memorial day weekend. I thnk we got about 4-5 boats coming with us but none of us has been there, only heard about it being a great spot. Do you guys know where everyone parties out there? A cove where eveyone ties up or something.

They party in the campgrounds until 10. I've been there the last 2 mem. weekends and I don't remember any parties on the water. But def. go up the river inlet to find good water almost all day long.

FYI - Water temps were around 70 this weekend. Water was pretty nice. Watch out for the bears. Use the lockers at the campsites. They were definitely out and about.

Very little. Couple small logs here and there, but nothing major for the most part.

We had 2 group sites at Schoolhouse campgrounds. 19D and 26D. One came up to 26D about 20 feet away or so right at dusk on Saturday. Also heard him in the middle of the night going campsite to campsite trying to get into the dumpsters. "SLAM - SLAM - SLAM" I think he was getting pissed off cause he couldn't get into them.

We had a 2 bear encounters last year at lake tahoe. First one was about 6 feet away from the campfire waiting for us to go to bed. Chased him back in the woods. Later the same night another one got into the bear locker pulled an ice chest out and grabbed a sandwich and walked away. The kids were pretty scared. It was quite a sight to see them that close. Wish I had snapped a couple of pictures.

Yeah, the skeeters were out for sure. We used "Skintastic"?? has the 40% deet I think and doesn't smell like skeeter repellent. Worked pretty good too. I'd recommend it.
