Got polyurethane cords from here. They don't stretch as much as the rubber ones, so factor that in when buying (and cutting to the right length). Got them in dark blue which matches the boat too.

As long as you have a decent cover for the boat itself it should be fine. The bindings etc. shouldn't have any problems with the heat, though I personally would not leave all that stuff in the boat....
