anyone else's riding time being shortened by the gas prices. I only ride on the weekends as it is and even then my time is very limited because i can't afford but so much gas

i paid 3.69 today in malibu.(well my company paid) OUCH....

Wow Rich! That was depressing! However, I think all of the points are something we as a society have in the back of our minds; only no one wants to talk about it.

A guy I worked with from India would not agree with that article. He said the total world population would have to increase 200% each year and at that point it would take 400 years to run out of fossil fuel. So if his numbers are correct...(and I am not saying they are) that would be a very long time. The area he is from in India is very rich in oil. So I would have to say, he knows more than I do about the subject. Unfortunately Sentil is now back in India, so I am unable to have him read this article and get his thoughts. there is a lot of propaganda out there. Hard to tell what is right and wrong anymore. Just like we should not drill off the coast of Florida.....after a discussion in DC said not too, Cuba is now putting up a new rig 9 miles off the coast of Florida and we have no say if they could or could not do so. I say if they are, what is the difference if we had done it. Just a thought.

WHile I know they have their strong points, if the EPA would shut the frick up, then our prices would not be what they are. If we had US refineries, which are EPA banned due to ultra high costs of meeting EPA demands, then we would not have to send our oil over seas to have it refined. COuld you imagine the savings in shipping costs? My $.02.

There's some interesting stuff in that article but some of it is a bunch of crap. Yada, yada, yada. Back in the 1850's there was a simlar scare about Peak Coal. Hmmm, what happended? We got much better at discovery and mining of coal. <BR> <BR>How about oil? We have explored only a very small percentage of the planet. We don't know how much oil there is out there. We do know that there is much more than has been discovered. The bell curve is not predictive. I have seen the same curve since 1973 with the same dire predictions. Guess what? I still have to put gas in my car. <BR> <BR>Will oil subside as a source of energy? Not likely in the near or medium term. In the long term, electricity can be cheaply produced by nuclear, wind, and hydro (I build wind farms). <BR> <BR>The market will decide how to adapt to oil energy prices. Right now, the prices are artificially high due to government intervention. My guess is about $1.00 per gallon. It is a cash cow milked for taxes. The other part of the equasion is the obstacles to better refinng and distribution. <BR> <BR>The sky is NOT falling. Enjoy your summer. Life will go on. The human race has made the transition from dung and wood to coal to oil to nuclear. We are still stuck in the coal, oil, and nuclear stage. Whatever dude...the world is coming to an end in 2010 because of $4.00 gas and you know it...Geez don't you have your bomb shelter and your canned food ready? Quite often the people complaining about gas prices are the ones driving big vehicles. The increase in annual fuel costs for someone driving a 15mpg vehicle doing 15,000 miles pa is $400 if the price goes up by 50c/gallon. <BR> <BR>What's the depreciation a big vehicle such as Chevy 2500 or F250 - $10k in the first year? Some people are missing the bigger picture.

15k/year @ 15mpg =1000 gallons of fuel,average increase since feb is over 1$ with more increases on the way = at least 1000 more annually times 2maybe 3 cars and your boat adds up to more than 400 bones to me.

this turned into a straight up econ 101 disscussion...why can't the govt just put a price ceiling on the price say at around $2.40..i don't think a shortage would occur because prices were at that price and there was no shortage

Suggest away. Free county, yet. Think about it long and hard before you throw something like that out for public critique. It can be brutal. I remember 1973 when America tried fixing prices and then rationing. Complete disaster. No need to go through that nightmare again. Then again, I am one of the oldest guys on this board.

If we want ethanol and alternative fuels...gas companies are making us pay now to convert. They should not be able to do this. They should automatically have a mandate to produce fuel for supply and demand. Not hold back on building refinerys. olding back will just force the us to have middleeastern countries continue to support our fuel consumption. When will these companies (gas companies) get a clue. Build the stinken refinery. E85 still requires 15% gasoline.

People will adapt, and boarding will go on. <BR> <BR>I used to drive and H2 and pull a Launch everywhere to go ride. <BR> <BR>I got rid of the truck and boat and now I drive a TDI Beetle getting over 50mpg and I kiteboard. The kite took some getting used to initially, but now I think its way better than wakeboarding ever was. <BR> <BR>You can get around and ride your board without drinking a bunch of fuel.
