How can I prevent someone from stealing my tower Boss speakers? I was going to weld them but Boss advice me not to do that (can cause problems with speakers).

What should I do? they are too expensive to leave them out in the open all night, they are way too easy to steal.

Any ideas???

You can try to find special bolts to replace the allen heads. Or Epoxy the allen heads so someone will have to chisle the epoxy out before they can loosen the bolts.

Be sure and make copy's of all your reciets and take them to you insurance agent.

Travis Farber
Wake Me Products
www.Wake-Me.com
Drill the mounting holes large enough to fit a sliding hitch lock and use that to mount them.

Or take the speakers off while it's stored outside.
|
Has anyone drill on the mount before?
|
I was thinking the same thing. Drill a 3/8" hole in the mounting arm, and use a cable lock to the tower. There just aint enough room on 530's arm to do that.

Rene- sliding hitch lock? can you explain what that is. Thanx.
|
Ryan of rynogear was going to look into a lock-on solution for his mounts. The hitch lock is a great idea. Ideally also the hardware holding the brackets on the tower would be hidden when the speaker is locked in place. This way the speakers are easy on/off and lockable.

Look at this web site

http://www.auto-extra.com/hitch_lock.htm

I hate to be the one to point this out, but if someone really wanted your speakers, they could just take the tower with the speakers attached and worry about getting the speakers off later. Maybe something to consider if you have a quick release or fold down tower.
|
yeah, I take the speakers off every time.
Besides theft, my speakers spend more time
on a nice clean shelf in the garage than
they do hangin' from the tower outside.
I only mount them when I want to use them.
I've never seen anything that was [Florida]
sunproof!
|
does any one have a picture of a tower been locked with a sliding hitch lock?

I am not sure how to lock with a hitch-lock my B-69 speakers.
|
A cable lock is too easy to cut. Filling the allen bold heads with JB weld is the best idea. It would take a power tool to get it out.
|
Yeah, with JB wled problem solved, but also new problem. You need to take them off sometimes. If they want them, they will get them. But, slowing them down they might just go on the next boat.
|
Many thefts are thefts of convenience. Some teen walks by, sees the speakers and says "wow, those look nice and easy to take".
A simple lock works wonders for this.
|
I do what sandy does, pull em down after the day, mine have two knobs on each speaker and they are down.
|
boat alarm or at least stickers and a flashing light.
|
To get the JB weld out of the allen hole, I just used a dremel tool with a steel brush attachment. Cleaned out each hole in about 1 min.
|
Here is a site that has an assortment of different types of bolts. I use a one way machine screw. you have to buy a special tool ( About $15 ) to remove them and they are flat so you can't just use a pair of pliers or something else to remove them. It still gives you the ability to take them down off the tower when you need to but prevents them from being stolen. Its also a lot easier than drilling out the mounts to try and put a cable lock or slide lock on them.http://www.hudsonfasteners.com/security.htm

On the speaker mount I'm going to use security screws instead of allen.....the problem is the screw you see on the pic, next to the red electricity plug. That is the one holding the speaker.

What is JB weld used for? is that permanent?

Any ideas?

By the way have u seen a Searay with tower? lol...the boat is on a warehouse not much light in it.
