2012 Boat Thread
This is usually the time of year were the details on the new boats start trickling out of the dealer meetings and photo shoots.
I'm just wondering what everyone knows about the 2012 models from all the manufacturers. Any new technologies, models, options, etc? |
Have 2012 Epic in barn now, going out tonight. New - no pumps to fill, all gravity based for the 4000#s. All wetsounds 14 speakers....new cut swim step so as to now cut into wave, and 8.2 Merc Engine with Cat. I know there is more but can't think of anything this min.
There's a new Moomba model for 2012... hoping to hear more about it after the dealer meeting today. Rumors are that it's a 22' pickle fork.
Holy cow NAW is alive!!!!!
I am extremely curious to see what comes out of the Skiers Choice dealers meetings. They have been pretty tight lipped on new stuff so curious to see any new models on the Supra or Moomba side. |

New standard moomba tower, the new model was set to unveil at 11:30 so I'm sure I'll be getting those pictures soon. |
Cool. Keep the pics coming...
yeah, that does look good. want to see better pics too!
I am too, Diggs. Looking forward to seeing whats new....I know alot of us SC fans have heard rumblings about some new things...but I ain't gonna spill the beans!
Thanks for the pic Andrew. Let us know the mojo on the new boat when you see it. Haven't heard much from Correct Craft, Bu or MC. I know that Bu has the new wakesetter pickle...but not alot of details yet. I'm definetly getting the itch to get a new one in 2012. The 2008 should be up for sale on Onlyinboards.com soon. |

Another new tower pic, the boat is a dd outback |
The windshield looks different too, maybe its just the tower makes the side glass look smaller...
I'm not so sure on the tower, is that 1 5/8 tube? It looks kinda dinky... |

that is the name of the boat? the mojo?
yeah, it's the Mojo.
Got any side profile pics?
interesting nose.. almost looks like a deck boat inspiration.
boat is basically a prototype at this stage, not into real production yet. they estimate production will start in october.
Def looks like a deck boat.
The bow shape reminds me of this (but maybe its just the low quality photo/glare from the white gel):
http://img.nauticexpo.com/images_ne/...oat-117994.jpg |
Ehhh. I'm a big Moomba guy, but that doesn't look very promising. That thing has like 4' of freeboard, it looks pretty odd...

here's a profile shot from facebook
looks very sinkable for the size! hope the wake is bomb and Moomba can get some marketshare back from Axis
I do like how the tower folds. At least there are no skulls incorporated into the graphics.
Hopefully all the manufacturers have stepped away from the whole skull/iron bird/Affliction (douche cape) look for 2012 graphics.
I need some more pix of that bow! The profile, tower, transom, platform, all look very promising.
I'm liking the look. Looks to have some Supra lines, a MBish rear end and a malibu/tige-ish bow... ish. Cant wait to see it in person.
I just heard the wet surface is pretty much the only part that is for sure right now, the one they had on display is basically the mold plug.
I have to admit...I'm diggin' this thing a WHOLE bunch!
Be awesome if this was the surf specific boat we have been asking for. |
Does that platform seem really low to anyone else?
Quote:
That hull and platform sure hint that this is gonna be a surf boat. Hope the wakeboard wake is nice too!
The FB pic looks alot better! The platform definitely looks low. It's a new shape too.
Ian- lots of freeboard is a good thing, yes it looks odd on the trailer but in the water it looks much better and the best thing is it enables more weight to be ran without worrying about water coming over when not at speed.
The bow on the new Moomba Mojo is God aweful...functional from the inside, but ugly. Platform and high freeboard does tend to hint at a surf boat. We'll see...Moomba's other boats (LSV and Outback V) accidently became really good, low cost surf boats. The platform looks to be solid or at least not just the usual flemsy platform that the Moombas are known for
Just noticed on the Moomba Mojo...playpen style bow BUT a walkway. I wonder how much bow ballast it will hold factory or is it going to be a small 400-650 center floor sac. I would be cool if there is a factory plug n' play bow sac available or standard IF this is a surf boat. If this hull turns out to be a great surf design it looks like Moomba with be to surfing (vs. Centurion) as Axis is to wakeboarding (vs. Malibu VLX, X-Star, and SAN 230)

To everyone complaining about the bow, all it is is a pickle fork without the spikes sticking out on the sides. That being said all pickle fork bows are ugly to me, good thing they provide extra room for people/ballast, and throw good wakes. They definitely dont sell based on looks, at least not for me. That being said the platform looks WAAAAYYYY low on that huge rear end. that part is definitely ugly. i will be very very disappointed if this is a dedicated surf boat unless the LSV hull gets some major over hauls. i just feel the surfing market is very small in comparison to the wakeboarding market. i surf but only when the water is too ruff to wakeboard
The platform looks funny for one because the boat has more freeboard than any other Moomba. Many boats have them that low, Nautiques, MBs, Tigé. Many of those have transom cutouts that diminish the severity of it is all. I like pickleforks for their function, more bow, storage room and no spray. For me it's more about the function than the looks.
Can't really see the bow or transom when you are driving. I still like the classic look of the other moombas .
Looks a little like cab forward design of the chrylser cars in the 90's Any other specs on the boat available yet? |

I would trade in a heartbeat for a value-priced surf specific boat.... |
2012 Byerly Boat!

2012 Byerly Boat!
New fabric pattern layout. Pockets in the sides for speakers and drink holders, ILINC2 system deletes all gauges. The old keypad is gone - the new one is much simpler. 409HP for the 6l, up from 390. TE comes with Power Prop, No tower change, Battery switch relocated up-front, accessed from panel in bow-walk through. Digital amps - smaller than previous and gives you your space back in the storage compartment. New electrics etc....Love it!! |
The byerly is so rad. How did they not have side cup holders before...
i really like the interior patterns on the Byerly..
I like the look of pretty much all pickle fork boats!!! Can't wait to see more pics of the Mojo!
Still not sold on that tower. Looks better on the the 210 than the 230 though, for sure!
The screen only dash on the Byerly boat does not invoke confidence in my mind. And its ugly.
Am I the only one who thinks the dash on that Nautique looks ugly?
Edit: guess not... I'm with Adam. Looks strange having it offset without anything on the left side. Totally lopsided... reminds me of this design fail: http://images.thecarconnection.com/m...00280519_m.jpg |
on the byerly, the mirror is attached to the walk trough. guess that means you have to have it closed when moving or at minimum when someone is riding. makes no sense to exclude those gracious enough to ride in the bow on a busy boat day.
def need to move that screen into the middle of the dash!

I will also say that it looks better in person than it does in that picture. |
the new byerly is sick, but the original still blows it away.
I like last year byerly boat better, but it has to be the most over priced boat out there. 120k for a 21 foot boat.........

I know it's been posted before but the 12 MB's have a lot of new upgrades:
Pop up pylon Drop in Carpet New underwater gear (the boat handles SOOOO Much better now) Wetsounds sound systems standard (tower speakers optional) New diamond plate style billet accents MB logo in floor drain New color matched interior inserts New vinyl patterns (new front top deck on the F21) New vinyl textures Extended steps on rear of trailer for easy access into the boat New ballast switch location No more electric engine cover, now three gas shock assisted hatches WArming tray Built in storage on outside locker hatches New metallic gel options and schemes Overall a LOT of changes from the earlier boat I had this season. |
Man thats nice!
That looks like a nice boat! I just don't get why everybody feels the need to put giant x's on the side of the boat. Mastercraft has the X series. Seems like other companies would want to be original. Yamaha does it on their jet boats with towers. My guess this was to try and hook the uninformed consumer. "It has an X, It must be a wakeboard boat!" I like the MB and have heard nothing but good things about them, I just don't understand why they couldn't come up with something better.
Nice looking boat
X is for EXTREME |
X is better than the flames and tribal marks they used to have on all of their boats. MB does interest me, very nice interiors!

MB 23' WB black/silver with Classic gel. Mb 21' Wb black/blue classic
I like the carpet in that Byerly boat. Looks nice. The pattern on the swim deck looks like a jersey laid out on top of it. LOL! Still nice, just looks like someone laid out their shirt on the back of it.
that 23 TWB Sasha posted is legit!

Great looking MB's.
To me the Moomba looks even more like a 70's Mark Twain tri-hull than a deck boat. |

'79 Picklefork
Those MB's are definitely looking good!
By the way, if anyone is interested in seeing a bunch of pics of from the skiers choice dealer meeting and are on Facebook, including wake pics of the mojo, worlds editions, etc...head over and like/request/fan Lauderdale Lakes Marina and check out their pics... |
Thanks, NAW! Some good pics of the MOJO in there.
One more 2012 MB. This one is all mine! I seriously love this boat.

Those MB's are sweet. Was def in the top 3 for selections on a new ride. I'm in Houston and wish they had a dealership a little closer than Dallas.

little birdie told me there is a new dealer in the area, details I'm sure to come.

what do those mb's run price wise? what kind of engines do they use?

Shamelessly stolen from a fellow MC Team Talk member...
New for 2012: * Ilmor engines only * X80, X1 Discontinued * ZFT2 manual 2-point tower (ZFT5p power tower optional), ZFT1/ZFT3 discontinued (except for X7) * New helm configuration with touch screen BIG * New glove box configuration with lock and radio mounted outside * slightly new gel patterns, and the return of Lime Green color |
The black and silver MB on the trailer and the one on the water just looks awesome. Can anyone tell me how high the MB sits out of the water. I think it's about 31" just wasn't for sure?
Mastercraft Tower......still ugly! |
good lord the helm and observer of the mastercrafts is disgusting.. looks like something out of fast and the furious.

And some more lifted from my dealer's website (www.nefwm.com). Big changes to the sunpad area of the X2 for 2012 with the walkthrough and X25-style storage lockers. Also black and gunmetal flake continues to look awesome.
Man that last black X2 (or whatever it is) is sexy, but damn that tower made me lose my torque.
not at all a fan of the MC. The first one looks like an american flag, tower is ridiculous, HU is asking for a drink to spill in that cubby hole, steering wheel looks like a trailer rim.. all around fail
...but lowering the tower electronically is a pretty slick idea |
I love the new helm layout. Compared to our 2011 it is such an improvement. The old layout put the BIG directly in my line of sight which in theory is a good thing but in practice, once I'm towing a rider I don't really need to look at it all that much. Down and to the right is a much better place and the classic gauge layout returns. The extra storage to the left of the steering wheel is nice and while the cupholder above the screen seems like a silly place to put a beverage it would be a great place to put my phone and wallet.
The tower took a couple weeks but it's finally growing on me but it still takes a distant third to the former tower and the power tower, though. I have to say I still like it better than Tige and Nautiques' current two-point options. |
Yeah, at least when you drop MC's two point tower you can still drive it an access everything than with the other two point towers which lower right onto the drivers head.
I'm with Diggs, other than the tower, that black boat looks sick. Before I came to that pic, the only thing that I liked about any of the '12 MCs was the steering wheel. They are just gaudy. If those boats said Centurion/Moomba etc. on the side, they would be lucky to see a boat with that tower on them. Fortunately for MC there are enough guys out there that drink the Kool-Aid that they will be able to pump them out.
I have to say that the classic lines of the MB makes me wanna crack a cold one, while looking at the nautiques and mc's makes me wanna puke. Those towers are just awful. Im down with the pickle fork trend, and hell, most of the time I wish i had more room like a lot of these newer boats do. But if the maufactureres keep coming out with all this gaudy electronic, tower assist, ugly lines, type of boat, etc you can bet that I'll be holding onto my 03 for a very very long time.
Quote:
So they discontinued the best, probably most selling hull in their history?!?!? The X-80 I can understand as that was just dumb, but the X-1? That is just nuts. Maybe they should actually price it at an economic price range. Hopefully they sell that mold to someone who can make a boat for the common man who wants a great wake and hull. Sad sad sad, and then they force that tower down people's throats |
A-Dub, you still an MC guy?:D
I'm thinking I'm going to start saving the down payment for a new MB! |

Was fortunate enough to see all the new Supra and Moomba products at the dealer meeting and am a huge fan of the new Mojo. |
Love that black/silver X25. Not a huge fan of that tower, but it looks better on the X25 than on the bigger boats. I'll reserve my final opinion on the tower for when I see one with a z5 mounted on it. I always thought the FCT3 tower on the 230's looked retarded until I saw one with a z5 on it.
Don't think I'll ever like those shock boot things though. Looks cheap, reminds me of a set of yamaha ttr 125 front forks, and will probably be a biatch to clean once they get sunscreen on them. You'd think with all the bling they put in their boats, MC would have come up with some billet aluminum 1000 piece engraved ultra complex polished telascoping thingamagig to use instead of a .39 cent shock boot.

The Black/Silver boat above is the X15. The interior is a disaster. Whats with all the diamonds everywhere? Seats, Walk thourgh door, glove box. There are a half dozen different metal finishes; chrome, brushed alum, billet alum, polished, powdercoated and machined! The cupholder above the touch screen is ignorant. Can you even fit a red bull can up there without it hitting the windshield? A 4 point steering wheel is not user friendly or pleaseing to the eye. Cupholders on the transom and a sun pad walk through? Man thats something I really missed on my 06 X2, how did I ever live without that? Thats just one more thing to try and keep clean. The tower. Oh the pain it gives me! The ZFT3 will be greatly missed.
Needless to say, the 2012 MCs wont be on my shopping list in the spring. MB? :) |
Ahhhh. You're right Adam. I couldn't see that first didget real well because it blended in with the hull. Now that I look closely, I guess that boat's not a picklefork. Duh.
With them getting rid of the X1, I hope MC has plans to accommodate customers with an <21ft option other than the X2. I bet we start seeing a lot more length limits on smaller bodies of water, and all these 21-22ft'ers will be saturating the market with people trying to get rid of them.
Brendan, PCM engines and you can get a great price on one, just think about the Big 3 minus $30-40K, and the wake is redonkulous;)
