April 23, 2011 marked the official start of the wakeboard season in Southern California. The Canyon Lake Wakeboard Club held its first contest of the year. While many people in the northern states are still waiting for the lakes to warm up, 40 riders signed up to compete against each other in various classes from the Beginner to the Open Class. Those in attendance got a real treat when Jeff Weatherall, Melissa Marquardt and the birthday boy, Randall Harris, came out to put on a demo. Jeff’s effortless tech tricks, Melissa’s stylish riding and Randall’s going huge left the crowd on their feet.
To cap it off, Randall did one of the biggest double ups that I have ever seen in person. Luckily, I also have the pictures to prove it. If this is any indication of how this season is going to be, we are in for a really good one. If you are in the area, be sure to check out one of the Canyon Lake Wakeboard Club contests or Ride Days. You might be surprised who shows up.
