Towing wise you are better off with the 230. Surfing wise you are better if with the 230. Send like an easy decision.

Yes, kids convince mom to upgrade so I was dreaming about boat's available. Most ppl here are saying G over 230 even though it's older

For the primary purpose of surfing, G, no question.

Most people towing G23s with 1/2 trucks are doing so with no people/gear and empty gas tanks for short distances with upgraded tow packages/tires otherwise it’s a white knuckle experience. Something that should be a major factor to keep in mind unless you plan on upgrading the tow rig.

Like others have said, towing/surfing (if you don’t mind added bags/re-cycling ballast pumps/losing storage) and joy of driving/maneuverability of the boat = 230.

Just wanna drop the boat in and fill up and have solid surf/wakeboard wakes and storage/space galore = G23.

I have a 230 and have ridden/surfed behind G23's. If surfing is 1st mission, and, towing with a 1/2 ton truck, 230. You'll have to add extra ballast, but the NSS will make the 230 surf wake really good w/extra weight. The surf wake won't be as "steep" on the 230 vs.G23, but, it's more versatile.

If you intend on any wakeboarding, the G23 has a better wake, easier to get there. Driving a 230, no question is a more responsive boat than the G.
