I was wondering how all of you with the 99 to 2001 Supra Launch DD's weight your boat for surfing? I have a 97 SunSport with a ballast system with fat sacs in the rear locker and under the rear seat plus another one up front. Should I fill all three for surfing or just the ones in the back? Will I need another sac next to the engine cover to make a decent sure wave? Also what speed is a good starting point?
I would definitely get another sac and some people in that back corner and give it a rip. You will probably need to go about 10-11 MPH. Start at 10 and see if it cleans up and gets a nice face. From there just bump it up a hair and it should clean up. good luck
I have a 92 sunsport. ~450 in the back under the seat with a 350 bag next to the engine and everyone in the boat on the same side as the bag works just fine. If you want more weight, I would say add side weight rather than rear.
I put one in rear ski locker, one under rear seat, one large sac on the floor port side in rear and also one sac up front on the port side NOT pushed up to the tip of the bow. 87 SunSport
I was thinking I would need to add some side weight. It looks like the next project will be to plumb 2 more sacs into the ballast system. I think I will add one on both sides of the engine so I can fill them both for wakeboarding and just one for surfing. Thanks for the advice. I am brand new to surfing so it is just something else to learn about from this forum.
Search SunSport and you will find a lot. Other peoples ballast (talk to Mongtomery his 92 SunSport has an awesome ballast sys.) and many threads. Also stop over to supraboats.com/bbs Greg you too!
