yes, it was named after chet raley. shapiro was training at the time and chet suggested the trick to him. he landed it that day and named it after his coach(?), chet raley.

Weren't there other raley based tricks that died, the 1-1-6, and the 311, 116, was like half an s-bend brought back, and the 311 was a toeide 911? I could easily be wrong, I'm youngf and basing this on a video game where you can shoot 300 feet in the air, do a quadrupple backflip, but then on a different jump you can't spin more than a 720...

Here's the KGB story... Gregg and I had both just learned the roll to blind. We were not the first to do this. Byerly did it switch probably a year before but his was may more like a pete in the ending. Gregg and I both saw the potential to take it the extra 180 so the race was on. Just before worlds 97, we both hit it on the same day. We don't know who hit it first because I went to Lake Picket that day and he stayed at Lake Kalarni (sp?) Gregg went out and stuck one in the expression session at worlds a few days later. He also was the first to have a sequence run in WBM. Here's why Gregg is such a stand up guy. He could have easily taken full credit but he shared it with me. We also named it together although I came up with the name "KGB". To answer some of the other trivia... Front Flip - Shapiro I think (saw him do one in the 91 worlds on Kauai.) Front to fakie - byerly TS front - Shapiro Batwing - Scott Harwood Tantrum - Eric Perez Tantrum to blind - Byerly or Gator Roll to blind - Byerly Back Roll - Navarro, Brugman, perez?????

Slim 540 is Josh Sanders, i didnt even know a dum dum 540 had been landed but Soven has dont it before. S Bend to blind is Shapiro. Theres even the Hasslehoff by Horrel and the Discombobulator by Schwenk. Its interesting to hear about Necrason cause i really didnt think he was a big deal but the more i hear he sounds like he was a big 2nd push of the sport forward.

Necrason used to throw the hugest elephants I've ever seen. I forget which LF video it was but they showed a few in Slow motion and he used to throw a full scarecrow then turn it back 180 at the last possible second, totally tweaked out still. Anyone know which video I'm talking about?

handle pass... The beginning of the next season, Randall invented that second handle and the trick went from hard to easy overnight... Necrason at the time was pretty big. He had a mix of style and tech long before it came the norm.

Ryan S, wasn't the first backroll (toeside anyay) Kreg Llewellyn? Dubbed the "wake flip". Going quite a ways back now, but he was Skurfer's front man for a period of time... Also, let's properly attribute the Ole 360 to the list of tricks my hero Tony Finn again! (Message edited by juniorhawk on December 02, 2007)

That's that tony finn skurfer book. generally, you can find them on ebay. erik, tony wasn't the first to do an ole and I wouldnt' use that book as a guide to who did what first, based strictly on the pictures. it says in the ole section that the guys at wiley's waterski shop "invented" that trick and it was later taught to tony in hawaii. electricsnow, obviously. Actually scratch that. No. Everything in that book is gospel and I won't be convinced otherwise. Anyway that book is harder to find than you might guess. It's definitely around though. I don't see it on eBay much but I do see it on the Amazon shops from time to time. My copy is in decent shape but I'd like a "mint" one since it contains all of the knowledge about the sport that one will ever need. (Message edited by juniorhawk on December 02, 2007)

It's Ok, no need to get sassy. If it makes you feel better, we can say that Tony did land the ever-critical "Ole" first. And one of those books was on ebay for close to a month not too long ago. They aren't uber rare, it's just hard to get a copy that wasn't from a library or something. Sorry to ruin your thread people...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember being at a Sports LTD contest @ Paradise ski lakes in Bakersfield in July of 2003, Ricky landed the Mobey 5. Word at the contest was that he had been the first to ride away from that trick first time a week earlier. I believe Boardstock was in October that year.

so does that mean ricky g landed the moby dick 5 first. i always thought it was ricky g as well. but no matter who it was there is no need for someone to be rude about it this is just a discussion board not a congressional debate so chill out a little we're talkin wakeboard not politics. don't get heated and snarky just cuz someone might not be right when in fact you might not be right.

Dave - Pretty sure that Mark Kenney did not invent those tricks. S-Bend was Shannon Best, Hoochie Glide was Gator, and I'm thinking it was Shapiro who did the first Vulcan. Also the Mobey Dick was Keith Kipp (although it become one of Brannon's staples). (Message edited by socalwakepunk on December 03, 2007)

it might be way above this, but shapiro hit the first toeside 900, not watson. It was in switch 22 which came out in 1998 or 99 but definitely before watson stuck it. shapiro did it on axis too; it was fairly soon after he made the switch from hyperlite to o'brien.
