Just heard about this... Aparently Konocti Resort didnt want to loose there liquor liscense after getting in trouble last year... Guess the cops caught quite a few underage drinkers.. Wonder if they will have it somewhere else??

Wow, that's a big suprise. LOL!!! The only thing Boardstock was any good for was skank watching. There wasn't much riding going on and way too much testosterone for the most part. Good ridence. Bring it back the way it used to be.

Didn't Boardstock start out as a grassroots event. If so i would probably liken the early boardstocks to the CIE spring ride.

The "grassroots" event at Lake Shasta is where it all started to go bad. Insane amounts of alcohol, drugs and trash tossed in the water was the final straw for the Shasta locals. It only went downhill from there. Tower Park was literally a three day RAVE- Never went to Boardstock after that- too scared...... Good ridance to BOARDSTOCK

Maybe we need to start an alternative to Boardstock here on wakeworld and bring it back to Shasta? No need for sponsors, dirtbiking, having to pay(so stupid), competitions, really bad white trash bands that bring their followings, ect..., just a bunch of people getting together on houseboats ready to party and have a good time! We could surprise Shasta and bring it back to the way I remember it.

Bryan, I'm all for that..... Just make it a great big Wake World gathering and we'd all have a blast. Matt.... One of our goals with Spring Ride is to never let it become like Boardstock. The minute we start charging admission someone has to kick me. If Spring Ride ever gets to the point where it's not about the riders and love of the sport, then it's time to end it. Hopefully we can keep it pure for years to come.

Evan, Exactly my point. Most people at boardstock knew nothing about wakeboarding. It was just a big excuse to party and was atracting the completely wrong crowd.

Missed the first Boardstock, went to #2 and #3. By #3, it had already become meathead central and I never went back. I can only imagine how it must've become infinitely worse in that regard at the Delta and then Clear Lake. From what I've seen/heard of Spring Ride, that seems to have the original spirit/idea of Boardstock. Hopefully, we won't be saying good riddance in 10 years to SR once some big corporation is running/profiting off that and the crowd is more about fighting than riding. I think holding an event pre-summer is a bonus to weed out the people who aren't into riding...my 2 cents. On a related note, Sperbet has announced plans to hold the First Annual Boca BroStock 2007. Details to follow.

I think most of the problems with these events is that as the "stoke" spreads and the events get bigger more people who could care less about the event just show up for the party.. When i was younger me and my famliy would all take our old cars and cruise over to hot august nights, every year the event would get bigger and bigger with more and more people who could care less about cars and were there just for the party, the last year i went there was a HUGE riot that started with a couple gang bangers and grew to a mob thrashing through town..

BCH, i'd definitely like to know more about that BroStock. Can you still get to a ramp at Boca? Mendo 247, have you tried the city of Sparks during Hot August Nights, down by the Nugget? Much better than downtown Reno. None of the riff-raff.

The whole Shasta thing is dead, never gonna happen, let it go. We ruined it for ourselves. It's just as well about Clear Lake. Hopefully the new location might have better riding conditions. "Wonder if they will have it somewhere else??" After eleven years in a row, you think it's gonna die cuz lake county said no? (Message edited by wake upppp on February 16, 2007)

Thank you KIM! I enjoyed it, and it gave me a chance to bring some others to check out what real riding is. I met some super cool people tied up to the line. My firends enjoyed going over to Konocti at night for the festivities so there was something there for everyone. I can see why it won't be coming back to Clear Lake, but if they do bring it back at all, I hope it will be on a lake at least. None of this shore watching.

Byrd,Woreout, and Myself are putting on the first ever Central Florida Wakefest and we had concerns about the future of it. We just want to keep it real and a grassroots event. Just a chill free ride lets get together and celebrate our sport event. So if any of you are this way around April 14th-15th hit us up or check it out under Wake Events. Sorry to hear about your situation.

From what I heard the day the news story broke, if that Konocti were to host BOARDSTOCK, they would not have a liquor license that weekend. Richard can you confirm from the news story from last week? Have there been any updates in the paper this week?

I think they should change the name from Boardstock to skankstock, or meatheadstock..... Something more fitting that wouldn't give wakeboarding a bad name. LOL!! I actually had a great time last year, but it had nothing to do with wakeboarding. Lot's to do with ladies doing un-speakable things and tons (tons) of beer/booze. At least on the boats at Konocti I didn't have to worry about getting shanked like the last year in Stockton.

sounds to me like the event will go down just at a new location... i do feel bad for konocti and lake county, this event had to bring a ton of money to our local economy, to bad a few people had to ruin it for everyone... will be interesting to see where it will be held..

...so possibly a bunch of worthless rumors?? lol Boardstock 12 WILL go down somewhere and thats all that matters, hopefully somewhere with better riding conditions, although to me, it's even more impressive to see them throw down in those conditions. Rusty seems to be the King of harsh conditions.

Yeah, nothing like a kookfest hopping place to place souring them on wakeboarding events. Funny, most other wake events happen in the same place every year, yet they have to move Boardstock all the time. Sound like some rethinking needs to be done. Dont get me wrong I love a good event with lots of riding and lots of partying, but something about Boardstock just screams "kook trouble" and it needs to be put to rest. I may be old fashioned, but I say build something that is about wakeboarding and not about profit and get back into some of those epic places and ride together.

I just got off the phone with Rob Stimmel of Boardstock Promotions, Inc. and he confirmed that Konocti has backed out because of the problems with ABC. However, they are still trying to put it together in the same area on the same lake about 10 miles away from Konocti at the city park. The dates should remain the same if all goes well.

Interesting... I imagine that will pose lodging issues, there isn't a ton of hotels in Lakeport. I'm not sure if we would go or not. Lakeport is a long way away from Funtime RV where we all camped last year. And if the wind picks up, the trek across the lake can be miserable with huge chop... Maybe there's an RV park closer to Lakeport?

"50 thousand people at boardstock?", including the concerts and everything, over three days, I believe so. "How many boats?", hard to say. The "party line" was three rows deep and probably an eighth mile long the day we went plus another fifty or so in and around the slips at Konocti. "How many actually wakeboard?" I'd guess a good percentage. The sport still seems to be growing rapidly.

We went to boardstock the first year and had fun watching the pro boarders and all the boats with the pole dancers , but the water was rough as the case usually is in the afternoon so the wakeboarding was not up to what we wanted to see. This year, 2006, we started to head over there, (on the boat)but with no one on the lake at 10:00 and the water just perfect and flat we couldn't make it. We just rode until we were exhasusted. Partied on the lake and bagged boardstock. Maybe I'm getting old (haha I am)I'm all for bringing it back.

Jason, I misread your post, but still only two of the four locations have told them they couldn't come back...and it all stems from alcohol, it's a pretty hard event to control if you think about it, people coming by land and water...

No doubt its hard to control, but why? Its hard because the only way you make a killin' is to advertize it to the masses and attracting non-wakeboarders to your wakeboarding event. If they were to take it back to its roots it wouldnt be near as profittable, but it would be more about wakeboarding, and alot easier to control.

Why we all got white people source awards issues? LOL Go have fun, keep the drama at home. Act like it isn't your first time away from home. I went to last year's and didn't even bother trying to tie up. We floated past the patrol boat and just waited for drama to unfold. Maybe someone tries an invite only event and your 'sponsor' is responsible for your actions. You act like an ahole YOU and YOUR sponsor are banned from the next event. See how quick people get straight after that. Kinda like a big ol' school word-of-mouth you-need-to-know-somebody deal. random thought

Guys this is nothing new to boating. AND the exact reason I shy away from "organized" events. Boardstock is always gonna draw the ski beach type crowd (sausage fest, with a few skanks thrown in). Now that I have a kid, I totally shy away from these kinda things. Boating to me will always be a family activity, and will spend my weekends trying to get away from these idiots Same problems seen in Havasu with the go fast crowd for years.
