Just curious, How many of you service your own boat?

I service my own boat and all of my vehicles.

I do but, then again I work at a boat shop for the past year so, there isn't anything I can't fix on the boat barring gelcoat or upolstery work.

I do impeller, and fluid changes myself. I had recently had the shop do an engine alignment because I found some bolts were loose.

oil and filter change is $80 at the dealer, and the dealer is a 1.5hr drive away. Doing it myself saves a ton of time and money.

We do most of it ourselves.

I have a 2002 Sanger and I am a little clueless on the maintenance schedule. I get it winterized every winter and last year I had the 100 hour service done. Can anyone let me know about the regular maintenance that needs to be done?

Go down to toyota freak he lays it out pretty good on the oil's. Don't forget to wax and take care of the teak swim platform.

Jill,
Check your engine manual. it should have a schedule of everything that needs to be done and when it needs it

Where in Ca are you Jill? Unless you are in the mountains and keep your boat there you may not need to spend the $$$ to winterize. Of course Im in So.CA but It does get below freezing a couple times a year. I just put a trouble light in the engine compartment at night.

I change the oil, replace the impellar and the serpentine belt. Boat service is too costly at the dealerships, these are easy enough things to do.

I do the normal maint. myself.

Also on the trouble light comment..that is what I was doing until I found this thing called the "Golden Rod". It is a metal rod that heats up and does the same thing....more expensive, but then I don't worry all the time that a 50 cent light bulb would burn out and cost me $5k for a new engine....... Check it out if ya want.....
