We have been so fortunate to see Scott ride and be part of his clinics. His teaching techniques are incredible and will take a novice rider to a much higher level quickly. His style is not suited for contest because it takes much more time to launch this big and he usually can only get 4 tricks in a run. If there was a big contest he would dominate. Follow him on FB and Hyperlite and look for a new board for him. Wow.

That was absolutely boosting. Anytime you can execute a stalefish that nicely and follow it with a casual 360--you are up there.
Nice work. I can't wait to see more.

So I finally got to see the G wake in person last week.
At one of the places that I ride there was a G sharing the line and the wake is huge, bigger than anything that I have seen before even sacked out. I have no clue what his setup was just that it was big. There are multiple boats that run that same line completely sacked out and nothing compares to this thing. Had to take extra precaution going through its rollers not to bury the nose of my boat when picking up a downed rider.

I noticed the same about the G wake. It was very big, very clean, and seemed to have a great shape to it.

BOOM!
You can actually see a few points where he's still so high after completing the trick he decides... "eh, another 180 won't hurt" or "i've decided I'd rather land with my other foot forward, let's switch this up"
Great video.

Out of curiosity, if Stewart rode the Pro Tour (maybe he does and I've just never noticed) would his style of riding (go huge, some tech) not be judged as high as that of Harley and Phil's (super tech, W2W)? IMO, his riding is just as impressive as that of the tour big-shots....if not more impressive (I've never seen anyone completely dominate a wake like that - dude doesn't flinch/hesitate for a second and I have to think the punishment for coming up short on some of those moves is brutal).

I never noticed his name up in the ranks of the tour. I think Dean is the only current 'go huge' rider that is able to make it work with the scoring system on the tour.

Thanks J-Rod. Yeah, seems like Dean Smith and to a certain extent, Rusty, are about the only one's with a "go enormous" style that get any acknowledgement by the current scoring system. Kind of a shame, IMO - watching the pro tour is definitely exciting and a good time, but would be nice to see some different faces at the top once in a while instead of it being the Phil/Harley show almost every weekend (both crazy good riders for sure). Hopefully some of the new guys (Dowdy, Shota, Steel, etc.) will be able to shake things up a bit this year to keep it fresh. However, I think the addition of the Big Air Comp at the PWT stops is a nice move - gives some recognition / opportunity for the riders with different style.

Back in the day Darin Shapiro and Mark Kenney were the guys with the idea of going huge in a tournament pass. They'd usually get in one less trick but would kill it on the intensity front. One of my favorite memories was watching Mark do a switch mobe 20 feet into the flats.
One thing I like about this video is that Scott recognizes the stuff he does is crazy and wears a mouthguard the whole time. I wonder what the story is behind that.

Tyler - WOW, you got to see this go down in person? I'm sooooo jealous. Can you share what the ballast set-up was on the G when Scott S. was riding? I heard that for the Teaser vids that Nautique put out last year around this time for the release of the G, that they were running 1400lbs over stock ballast.

He was on the tour, may have been 2 seasons ago, and he was not rewarded for his riding by making the podium. He told me Hyperlite was super cool with him putting out videos and riding the way he wanted to and not focus on the PWT and conforming to make podiums.

^^^ Matt - thanks for the intel. That's truly a shame that the scoring system on the tour does not recognize his style/abilities - maybe we'll see him in the big air competitions on the PWT. On the flip-side, huge props/respect go to Hyperlite for their outlook/response to the situation - nice to see that they are not all about the contests. Think that says a lot about them as a company.

It is indeed a shame. I was on the same team with him @ Wake Games a couple of years ago. He rode fantastic & didn't make it out of his heat. I was shocked, so I can only imagine how he felt about it. Great rider!

I didn't notice the mouth guard. I know that Andrew Adkison wears one too after knocking a few teeth out with his knee. I was lucky enough to only split my chin open during my knee to face incident.

I got a chance to shoot with Scott awhile back and I remember watching him and tripping out on how big he was going. Pretty insane. Best part about Scott is not only does he go big and rip but he is a good individual as well. A combo you don't always see.

J-Rod - are there certain tricks that subject you to a greater risk of the chin to knee wreck (maybe frontrolls?) or could it happen on any trick. I've spent some serious money on dental work over the last couple of years and would like to avoid any tricks that could potentially give me problems on that front.
Arun - great to hear that Scott S. is one of those good people/sick rider types......Murray always comes to mind when I hear about others out there.

I've been fortunate to enjoy many years of riding with Scott. I don't know anyone as passionate about wakeboarding in the world. He lives and breathes the sport and the kid has got incredible awareness… I know soon there will be some moves never been done before. I think Hyperlite is awesome for seeing his potential. I feel like his journey is much like Keith Lyman I just hope the sport backs him so we don’t lose another one of the best. I did like to personally thank Scott for helping me pursue my goals in life. He was huge in helping motivate me to get over my knee injury, he just a genuinely good man. I doubt the pro tour will ever recognize and reward his type of riding. My prediction is his videos will gain him his well deserved place as wakeboarding elite. Can’t wait to see what he does in his next video and his entire career for that matter. Keep it up dude nothing in life comes easy its clear from reading this that the people have spoken. On a side note the g23 scares my knees

Also, super young guys, take note of the fact that he is getting that much air behind boats with far less weight than a G23 or anything like that. He can go that big behind anything. I saw him riding once from afar and thought it was Murray. I was wrong
