Do you notice more drag with the larger fins?

I always associate drag with slowing a board down. The deeper fins offer the bullet more drive and tends to keep it going straight. The Bullet has a single to double concave bottom, so deeper fins may impact other boards differently, although I've never noticed this. I know that Sean has said the deeper fins available for the C5 boxes, (those fins have sort of a cupped foil - is the only way I can describe it) cause drag on the Walzers.

Yeah Matt, I think James got the most air on the Bullet - I'm not good with the picture editing tools, but I tried to "cut n paste" the Comp X next to the Bullet pic's - it seems that one is "closer" or something - anyway...side by side the bullet with the 4" fins gave James larger air. Along, I don't know. I didn't even know that there was more than one size for that box. Have you tried giving the folks at Walzer a call, or possibly Sean at The Board Shop?

that 1st air is so big. dang kids alan-never got it (did you get any of mine?) but I did talk to a Futures rep yesterday and they are currently out of the 3 1/2". You might find them online but unfortunately they cost $80 for a set of 4. I'm also trying to get them made in 2 7/8" but that's going to take some time.

Hey Johnny, yeah we're fiends Now that James is out of school for summer, we'll go out twice a week. I think that it was JL that was telling me that you hadn't been out on the boat much at all before Tulloch - that's guts, hitting a contest to warm up for the season. C.R. can't post video here on WW, but I do believe there are some vid's of James on wakepics.com. Of course, JL has an extensive collection of videos at mobgroup.tv - I don't think he has any of James except from the Tulloch contest if that gets posted. Entrust, if you've ever seen the older Shred Stixx display ads - Jerry describes the key to air being drive or speed. I have seen two schools of thought on this. The one that James subscribes to and that Jerry talks about is speed up and into the lip. Then James tosses an ollie off the lip. Being able to ollie is paramount to huge air. We were lucky enough to have the Inland crew on our boat before the Tulloch contest and their team rider Travis gets air a little different. He has a skate background and I swear 10 foot long legs. He doesn't power up through the lip like James, Chase and Josh Sleigh do. He gets some speed, but mostly just drifts up the face and then does this HUGE ollie at the lip. Now, Travis is using the 4skim and there are pictures of him boosting pretty substantial air. If you want to power up through the lip, then the phase 5 probably doesn't have enough drive. If you air like Travis, the drive isn't as important as having the ability to bring your legs WAY UP and to throw a huge ollie.

yea jeff we got out a few times 3 or 4 prior to going to tulloch, haha truthfully i didnt even have a board of my own so i decided on a board just before my run in the contest, and rode a set of fins that i hadent ever rode in that board. came out good tho i just threw a stock run and i guess it worked out well. never really tried a shuvit before that eighter and i basicly landed on in the run which was cool. any way are there alot of contests around that arent hyped like tulloch and boardstock?

Oh J.L. you are amazing in filming and editing. That was some great footage. Who is that incredibly talented and exceptionally handsome first rider? Folks if you haven't done so, do yourself a favor and checkout not only J.L. of the MOBgroup's handiwork, but also some of the most talented wakesurfers anywhere. http://www.mobgroup.tv/videos/wakesurfing.html Top link on the right. If you want to see how various high end tricks are done, this is probably one of the best video's for that. Superlative JL, as usual.

As Jeff mentioned, A rider can get air with an Ollie only, but that results in little air time and low altitude. Here is an example of what a rider can do when one combines a good "Ollie" with good speed. Allows more hang time so a rider can go to the next level and do tricks while in the air as Chase is doing here, "180 Air". This year he is starting to land "360 Airs"...Sometimes

Are you pulling my leg? A fat buddy filled with beer? Isn't that like 20 gallons? or @ 9 cases? or @ 195 beers? Too funny. Can someone convert all of that to the number of times an individual would have to pee per hour? This picture reminds me of a Karate demonstration: James will now attempt to CHOP through a 2" board using only the balls of his feet...in mid air.

This oicture is interesting. If you'll notice the fins and compare them to the picture above. This translucent yellow fins are 2 3/8" deep. The same depth as the smallest C5 fins available at retail from Futures. However, these fit into a standard Futures box, rather than the C5 box.

Ok this thread should officially be renamed "PICTURES OF JAMES WALKER!" jk. There's a ton of surf-style air up here (as there should be, Chase gets sick hangtime), but i'd like to add a few skim airs to balance it out a little... i think there's like 1 or 2 so far from boards with only 1-2" fins (pix of Drew & Inland). This is one of JAQ on her way up: I liked this one, still not huge air but it's a start: AND THIS... is the result of my 1st attempted "360 Air" ha, not even close.

Johnny - you need to come up this way - talk J.L. and the MobGroup into filming up North and hitch a ride with them! J.L. I can't believe that you and Josh and the entire Mob Group crew would torture poor Johnny like this! What has that poor young man EVER done to deserve this punishment? I think the ONLY thing you can do to rectify this situation, is to give Johnny a ride north and film all day. (Johnny, I did my best )
