Style Haters

So I was thinking today about style while watching Lyman, Rathy, Greenwood, and a mix of many unnamed random riders. I was thinking of how I have encountered many threads, posts, comments (which don't necessarily pertain to my posts, but more the online wakeboard media as a whole) from style haters saying stuff like,'well he is not poking out grabs, tucking the knee enough, going big enough, he is like a robot, etc.' In one way or another everyone has style..and I think its lame when people start talking about someone and saying, 'they don't have any style'. Style is all a product of perspective and there could never really be a lack-of-style in someone's riding. Style is about riding with a different attitude and everyone does, weather being scared on there first time to being super confident with there riding. Style exists in every rider on the water.

did you rate your own thread?

Three whole stars.

Style is too subjective to lump it all together. For every person that loves some guys riding style there are two that hate it and vice versa.

I try to be as robotic as possible when I ride, its going to be the next big fad.

I had to rate it a 1 star. anyone who rates their own thread 5 stars deserves an automatic one star to balance it out imo. Like nick said, style is subjective and there are too many variables to judge "style" across the board as if there is a standard. but my favorites are shane, vandall, schwenne (love his signature grabs).

He didn't rate his own thread, I did. At least I think I did, the stars weren't there and they apeared after I clicked on them. I'm new around here and thought that was a way to show I liked what he said and threw out something positive to talk about. Didn't have time to type my own opinion at the time, but a quick click to show support. Sorry. Interesting to see posters jumping straight to negative though, kinda proves the original idea that some people just can't wait to hate.

Unfortunately this forum has a tendancy to be quick to post negative comments. I wish it were different, but there is a ton of good info here, if you can swallow the hate.

chillwiththebrosandkickback 05-17-2011 7:29 PM

haha. nah i didn't rate my thread..at least I didn't mean to...AL wake and Jeff Mathis you dudes still winchin' ponds up near Auburn University? I was that kid who was going to ride then the security cop was like 'nahh' (he was a hater). btw, Jeff, the stuff you and Alex are doing on the rails is SICK!

So back to haterz...kind of hard to pin the reasons why people in the sport hate....anyone know why?

I think when people get passionate about something they can sometimes also get defensive about it or "purist" about it. Not saying all do.

I agree with Jeremy. Everyone has a picture in their mind of what it "should" be, and they dont like it when thats not how it actually is. I know I get put off when I hear people say flex boards are the greatest thing ever/the only way to go, or that boat riding is dead and cable is the best thing about wakeboarding. Thats because I ride a stiff board behind boat. The way I do things is my favourite way, and thats what I want to see or hear about. And when it gets put down, or even pushed aside, I get sad. And sad people sometimes start to hate on happy people.
