i have a 6'8 surfboard and was wondering if you could just ride it wake board at like 20mph like 40ft behind the boat

I've run a Trick Boardz Mojo XL at 15 mph measured on GPS, and I've ridden the Inland Surfer Red Tide at 14.7 mph per GPS. I was boat speed limited on the speed attempt on the Red Tide, the throttle was maxed out.

20 mph sounds pretty challenging, but I don’t have ready access to larger surf boards and a good selection of alternative fins. I don’t know how hard your willing to push your boat, I’ve been keeping my surf speed around 11 mph for most of my riding.

Give it a try and tell us how you do.

Matt do you mean free riding, or line riding? If you're line riding I've recommened a small board, free riding a large board.

ok i mean on a surf board but not surfing the wake, acutually riding the board like a wake board like 40' feet behind the boat going wake boarding speeds

Hey Matt, we used to surf behind my dad's IO before the "skurfer" was on the market. Many years ago indeed! We would use longboards (9'-10'6") as well as our shortboards (6'1" to 6'8") and did both free riding and line riding. We actually got to the point where we could get wake to wake airs on our short boards, using a line of course. You can have fun for sure on a 6'8" at slightly slower than wakeboarding speed. I'd say try around 17 to 19 mph. Have fun!

Hey Matt, you can line ride at speed, we had a blast whipping into the flats too. Check this thread:

http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/87668/337644.html?1155159133
