Ghetto Gate- 08 Xstar..wow impressive changes!

So built a Ghetto gate this weekend with my brother from from cutting board stock from the local store ($40) and some misc stainless screws ($5) and some random hardware we had laying around the family cottage.

Did some guess work.. and the results are pretty amazing.. we had to slow down surfing from the 11.8-12.12mph to 9.8-10.4mph now.

Wake is larger, better lip and seems to have a longer pocket...

Weighting the boat evenly.. 750lb bags in rear locker, 440 on the floor and factor 500 belly tank filled..

And the wake.... Wow... who would have known...

Makes a huge difference! I love mine, I also found slower is better, oddly depth plays a huge, in 17' or 20 it likes 10 MPH, deeper it likes 10.3

gti2lo 06-22-2015 10:41 AM

Yes water depth made a huge difference in the shape of the wake... seemed to like 20'+ and in the 15-20' depth is wasn't as defined and a little more washed out on the lip.

tonyv420 06-22-2015 2:42 PM

deeper the better, always!

Greeko 06-22-2015 4:19 PM

Thats impressive! No lip though...

40th Xstar has to be the best looking boat of all time.

There is a reason why I still have it since new....

I think that's pretty sweet, an awesome design that has been very 1 dimensional now is opening up to a new market.

I believe the "surfing a nice clean wake behind a xstar" and NOT listing said X star.... far out weighs a lip.

quite a difference it makes! you're going to have fun on that wave this summer. enjoy

wiscxstar 06-23-2015 10:42 AM

Wow, that is an impressive wave!

lashburn1 06-23-2015 10:47 AM

thats not very Ghetto....there are some rusty Nailed 2x4 gates out there...

Nice Result!!

Surfed a 2015 nautique 210 with NSS later on in the weekend...gotta admit the wave was larger on the x star. Not with 210 only had pro ballast so about 1800 total. We had 2500 or so

Some more screen caps from some gopro footage... video soon.

Good shot of the wake..who said an 08 xstar can't have a good sized surf wake

Would you happen to have any details/specs for your design? I like the idea of surfing without having to list the boat. I have an 04 X-Star. Identical hulls.

dvsone79 07-24-2015 1:38 PM

That wake looks really good. What is the approximate angle of the gate?

Pad1Tai 07-25-2015 12:19 PM

I'm on Gen 7 with my X Star surf system.. been modifying the system for 4 years.. The XStar hull's are designed for creating huge waterboarding wakes.. the box transom doesn't work too good with surfing... I have 18inch electric tabs and run 2600 lbs of ballast... I am now fabricating the Supra Swell type tab to install and see how it works..

Pad1Tai 07-25-2015 12:40 PM

I also modified that huge X Star swim platform to a surf style that doesn't drag in the water... The FAE exhaust mod is a must for serious wakesurfers. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...psfsc34uhq.jpg

Does it make a difference on the wake shape?

onetogofast 06-10-2016 11:41 AM

Curious about the double diversion. Have heard plenty ask about but no one has stepped up. Sweet!!!

Pad1Tai 07-28-2016 7:48 PM

The full 30 degree gate deflection actually created turbulence and a water hole that the ride side lip curled into.. This reduced the vert and push of the wake..

Pad1Tai 07-28-2016 7:51 PM

I reconfigured the gate tab to deflect out 3 degrees and stow a full 15 degrees farther in and it works perfect.. I also run 3100 lbs of ballast..

Any update on this? Curious about the results of the combined systems.
