Well, we finally got our hands on the long-awaited, fully redesigned MasterCraft X-Star. Although MasterCraft had a few delays on the production of the latest version of their flagship wakeboarding model, it appears to have been worth the wait. Dig into the links below to check out the details on each aspect of this boat and don't forget to check out the photo and video gallery for all the visuals you'll ever need.
Stuff You Should Know About Our Test
The 2003 MasterCraft X-Star model that we tested was one of the first ones to come off the production line. It was used for the first stop of the Pro Tour in Orlando and we tested it the next day. Although MasterCraft assured us that it was a production model, there were a few items here and there that just didn't seem quite finished. Although I'm sure most of them were worked out and changed in the production process after this boat left the factory, we will mention all of them here just so you know what to look for if you go buy one.
There are a lot of things about any boat that we feel really come down to personal preference. We're not about to tell you that the drink holders are well placed or that the steering wheel cover feels great. Not only are these minor details that are not likely to affect whether or not you buy a particular boat, but they are a pretty subjective matter that will probably affect each person differently. We count on our photo gallery to answer a lot of questions about the minor details of this boat.
Throughout the review, you'll see comments from MasterCraft inserted in red. We thought that it would be valuable to our readers if they could get MasterCraft's "rebuttal" on some of the comments that we've made, so we gave MasterCraft a look at the review before we printed it and let them add whatever comments they felt would further explain certain items. These comments were all added after the review was finished and in no way affected or changed the review.
This is the first time the WakeWorld staff has ever done a thorough boat review. Although we tried to do everything we could to bring you as much good info about the boat tested as possible, there may have been a few shortcomings. If there is something you notice missing or you have a suggestion for future boat tests, please let us know at gobig@wakeworld.com.
We've organized the review into the sections listed below. Navigate the review via these links as well as those located at the bottom of each page.
