2009 Ronix Ibex 144
Our widest board, with the most sidecut and abrupt rocker line the Ibex was built to haul ass with an award-winning boot that has no bounds. Parks Bonifays pro model combines all of the speed and snap you would expect from his wide-open style of riding that earned him the coveted Legend award by the industry in Wakeboarding Magazine. This series combines aggression with a softer bevel in the center for added forgiveness before blending to a sharper bevel in the tail. A series that rides like it looks.
Riding Style - Parks Bonifays super charged Ibex makes every liquid transfer feel like a triple up, and puts the rumor to rest that explosive boards dont ride consistently. The most overall aggressive board in our line.
I thought for my weight (240) I'd get used to it after a few sessions but that being a 144 and a much more radical shape than what we were on, it would be a handful for my son at 160lb. (He calls it "The Five Stage" cuz its got so much rocker in the tips, it definately looks gnarly.) The Soul is a 140 though and he was used to a bigger board, so I took a chance.
Well, let me tell you this board flat out rocks! We both love it completely. I tried it first and was grinning ear to ear. I expected it to be technically demanding but it does everything suprisingly easily. I know this is supposed to be an advanced board but I think even a novice would feel at ease on it in short order. As for intermediate riders and better, let the games begin. Setting an edge and craving hard felt way grippier than our old board. Pop was excellent without feeling the least bit uncontrollable, (Although on his first jump, my son - with a huge smile - let go of the rope mid air when caught off guard with his new found altitude, lol.) Landings were way softer than I expected given the big flat midsection. Grinding and sliding was a piece of cake with the tucked rails in the flat, however when carving and slashing around or even riding straight we never thought it felt squirrelly or unpredictable.
This board works really well for both of us even with the huge weight difference. It positively inspires confidence and will take you to the next level right now. The first time out with it my son was busting tricks that he'd never done before and I was sliding easier carving harder, and jumping higher than ever.
We think the board looks awesome, with its soft rails in the middle to angular and sharp at the tails, combined with the brushed aluminium finish it looks like some futuristic high tech chunk of metal.
This thing is way cool! You'll like it.
