2008 Hyperlite Imperial 140
Scott "Butch" Bouchard's first creation in the Hyperlite line is geared for a responsive ride with a ton of pop. The Imperial series is the widest board in the line. With an 18" waist, it was shaped to create maximum pop with minimum swing weight. This added surface area also creates stability. To ensure a quick, responsive ride, Butch shaped a tapered sidewall that starts tall at the center of the board then tapers to a sharper step-down rail tip and tail. This blend of soft to sharp sidewall creates lift and pop towards the center of the board and a fast edge toward the ends. Aiding the Imperial in this responsive feel are its cupped molded-in fins. The first board with molded fins built with a true 0.5" radius. Finishing up the Imperials technical package is the center beam construction, built to break heavy landings off big airs generated by its explosive pop.

I have to say based on the description of this board and the reviews I was pumped to get it and ride it, but it has disappointed me. Tracking is poor and I have yet to find that pop everyone is talking about.

The Imperial 140 does two things very well... It has a huge pop off the wake and lands very soft due the the wide mid section. It does not track or hold an edge as well as other boards especially if you lean hard into the edge, it will break loose a little. Spins can be executed ok for a heavy board. Summary-great pops and landings.. thats it.

I got this board three weeks ago. It was between this and the Murray. I choose this because of the lower price. I have not been disappointed. It is very wide but pretty light compared to my other boards. The pop is very consistent and the landings are the smoothest. I have had multiple people ride this board and they all rode better. It spins easily and is very easy to recover if you don’t rotate all the way through. I highly recommend you give this a try!!!
