2006 O'Brien Natural 139
Daniel Watkins: "I loved the way the Player rode over the last three years. So, when it came to designing the Natural this year, I wanted the same basic feel from the new board. We went to town on designing the Natural, using the Player as a home base.
"I wanted this new board to rider faster but still pop like the Player did. So we made two major improvements from the Player design. We shortened the inside molded fins to make for less drag. Also, after months of testing and refining, we came up with the chevron design. This design is used on the bottom of race boats. It actually helps break the water off the tail of the board to make the board rider higher and faster in the water, making the board ride more like a continuous rocker board while keeping the same popping characteristics of a three-stage rocker board (best of both world).
"Then I wantred to make the board roll onto edge smoother, giving the board a more Natural ride. We did this by rolling the rails of the board all the way through to the cupped rails. Another advantage we found with doing this, is the board is far more durable for sliders.
"I loved the smooth landing on the Player, so we kept the same sweet double concave in the midddle of the board for those naturally smooth landings. It is the natural choice for '06."
This board is SICK. Super light board with great speed, big pop & butter landings. It is such a smooth board & transitions well from whatever you are riding. I have not riden the 07 yet but I hear it rides the same (Just worse Graphics).
If you want a solid board and really progress your riding this year I strongly recommend picking up the Natural. Obrien has finally brought the heat and you will find that out on this board!!!
IT WORK VERY WELL BUT NOT IN CHOPY CONDITIONS!
I couldn’t say anything bad about this board if I tried.
It’s very fast but the board still has exploding pop. The tracking is great And the landings are unpresidented.
The Natural has really good grip and tracks well. I would say the Natural without fins tracks a little better then the Valhalla without fins, but not as much as the Demented.
I used to ride the Demented and then the Valhalla and I really liked both boards, but there is something about the Natural that really works for me. I know I sound like a dork saying it, but it just feels Natural to ride the Natural. The interesting thing is that it is a three stage board and I have been riding continuous rocker boards for the last 2.5 years.
I got on the Natural and everything clicked and it felt great!
* The shorter inside fin and the chevron design give to the board a super light feeling. This board is extremely manoeuvrable and will give you confidence to try new tricks.
*I was suprised by the very early release of the wake. It really helps me a lot on my spins.
* This board is very forgiving on landings, you can actually get away with mistakes on your inverts and still be able to land.
*Like Daniel Watksins says it is the Natural choice for 2006. Go for it.
