2003 Hyperlite TFD 142
The goal of the TFD series was to take the feel of the old Drifter/Project shape and update it with all of the new features of the latest Hyperlite boards. We gave the board a step down rail, deep tunnel, 6 degree winged fins, a deeper center beam and a wider tip/tail profile. Keep the feel of the continuous rocker, but add just a little more boot than the old shape.
For my style of riding I want a predictable ride up the kicker with a quick overall feel. A board, that when I set it on rail hooks up fast for a stronger edge into the wake. The angled fins give the feel I was looking for, but doesn't make the board feel as tight on the water. I think we met the challenge, that's why it is the TFD, The TFD combines a smooth rocker line with an aggressive edging style on the water and a sense of forgiveness on landings. A new fast action carver for riders on the go. |

I REALLY LIKE THIS BOARD. IT TRACKS SWEET AND BREAKS FREE WHEN NEEDED. TWO THINGS FOR INMPROVEMENT. THE WEIGHT IS A LITTLE MUCH ON THE HYPERLITE BIOLITE BOARDS AND THE BOARD IS A LITTLE SLOW. IT HAS ALOT OF POP, BUT BECAUSE OF THE FOUR FINS IT DOES’T SPIN OFF THE WAKE LIKE I AM USE TO WITH MY GATOR BOARD, BUT THE LANDINGS ARE MUCH MORE FORGIVING AND THE FOUR FINS GRIP IF YOU ARE NOT PERFECT ON YOUR LANDING. IT IS THE BEST BOARD FOR ROUGH WATER AND A GREAT ALL AROUND BOARD.

This board tracks sweet and lands smooth. Edging is effortless and the pop is good. Had a O’brien Ambush before this and the TFD smokes it. Awesome board for a newbie like me!

Tons of pop, Buttery landings, but the board is too slow in curve insertions and not responsive in turnings...

Good board. Not enough pop. Maybe me + bad h2o. I found it hard to spin off the wake. The board I rode had 1.1" fins. Butter slides and surface tricks were easy.
I did get booted way up one time, but I think it was a chop double up. lol.

I think this board is great because transitions are fast and it has solid edging. I also think the board looks awesome.

Good board for the bigger guys. Great for a beginner. Rides well, but a little slow and big for me. I got a good pop a couple of times

Not too much pop. Throws you more out than up when you hit the wake. The 4 metal fins are almost unforgiving in that when you set the edge you are going like it or not so be ready because it hooks up and won’t let you loose until you are leaving the wake. Felt really tight in the water and was no good for surface tricks. I had to ollie from fs to bs when setting up in the flats for the next trick or risk get slammed trying a flat water spin. Swing weight felt high which slows the rotation on my spins some. Not my style of board, made me ride defensively vs fluidly and with confidence

I have ridden several boards and the TFD’s control and pop are excellent. The pop is very consistant with smooth landings
