2002 Hyperlite Drifter
"I finally outright got my own pro model for 2002, after Chad Sharpe and Idesigned this shape last year. This style of boards fits my ridingperfect. It is more aggressive into the turn than other boards because itsits deeper in the water and the multiple fins on each end. I also thinkthat this type of board rides better in rough water.Hyperlite added thedouble-bump swallow tail which gives the board more olly power and extrapop off the wake. Both of these boards come with my fin - the Gonzalez1.5". Since my board is grippier feeling than most, I designed a fin thatwould break free quick off the wake and have an overall looser feel.

For a few tricks as i can do, i like this board a lot. i havent ridden many others and im not up to spinning or inverts and sliders yet so i cant give a full review, but the board rides great for me. it holds its like really well and i’ve never caught an edge or gotten squirrely on it. i would like to try some smaller fins, as the quad setup is damn hard to do surface tricks with. landings in between wakes are kinda rough, but if you hit the far wake or land in the flats it feels great for me

OK this board took some getting used to. normally i adjust to a board in a few minutes, took like an hour over a few sets. i started riding it w/ fins but i hated how stiff the landings were. i would always hang up the fins and it would drag my rail down and WHAM. so i decided to take the fins off, another bad idea. the drifter relys so much on the fins to provide tracking cuz it’s bottom is pretty basic. it was so slippery and i couldn’t really get onto a good edge. i got used to eventually then i really started to enjoy the quickness and snappy release off the wake. its deffinately a unique ride but thats a double edged sword, if u try it once and don’t like it give it some time and maybe u’ll grow into it like i did. good luck. nick

This board is really sick! I don’t think I have every rode a board with better inverts. I was riding the 2000 project but I decided as I got better to go with a lighter and quicker board. After 4 times on the water I have landed 3 new inverted tricks!! Really, quick board--not as sticky to the water as my old project with the cuda fins but the drifter with the gonaldas fins releases really quick and spins tens times better. I landed my first 540 yesterday. Buy this board!!

This board is good for spins and inverts because it tracks so well on landings, it has a great release, but I wouldnt recommend it for people with a really kicky wake due to the fast release, it will almost release to fast with a kicky wake, the gonzalez fins are great, what i really dislike about this board is how it tracks on edge, its very loose and hard to control unless ur riding in glass, with such wide fins and a wide edge it doesnt hold too well when cutting out, ecspecially on big cuts into the flats, this board is really for going wake to wake and for people who ride like their on a snowboard, I think hyperlite could improve the board greatly by putting on a narrower fin for better hold and edge bite, the swallow tail really helps when u dont get the board perfectly around for 360’s or 540’s the pop is really good though, it has tons of rocker, what i really like about this board is the amount of water is sends up on a wakeslash, theres like double the water from any other board ive rode, the bottom is really technological theres lots of rails and the amount of rocker makes rough water even fun to ride in because u can get so much air off of rollers. I really like the graphics on this board, it has a real badass look, it looks more like a board designed by byerly then gonzalez, it’s also very light which is nice and its a very floaty yet aggressive board, which is rare.
I would reccommend this board to anyone who like alot of pop and quick release and easy spins.
