2008 Mastercraft X-Star
Notice: You are the toughest competitor youll ever face. Youre the difference between achieving your goals and all the other inglorious alternatives. Your individual will to set the bar higher and continually redefine your personal best determines your success.
Correspondingly, if youre looking for a worthy comparison, the X-Star competes best against itself. Its the most decorated and honored and worshipped boat weve ever seen, and weve been doing this for 40 years. It stars at the PWT, X Games, Dew Action Sports Tour and SuperCross. The idealized wakes launched an entire culture of gravity-defying junkies. Its the official towboat of everything cool and every significant tournament around the globe. Its a big part of the soul of every pro who competes for the podium.
Of course, the cult following begins at the incomparable wakes, so its not surprising the X-Star has pulled more 1080s in competition than any other boat. But beyond mojo wakes, every other element of design has come together perfectly in a way that feels like nirvana. Thats why X-Star is the bestselling wakeboard boat in the galaxy, and has coveted Riders Choice Awards four years in a row.
Its you versus you. But with the X-Star on your side you can kick your butt.

Can anyone tell me why the 2008 Xstar 40th anniversary edition seems to be so cheap, $35,000.00 with only 68 hours. We are looking to replace our 1997 which was a great boat and we are trying to decide between the Xstar and a 2005 X2 which is $41,900.00. The pricing has me confused.

Wow it sounds like some Malibu and Supra salesmen on here. This my third mastercraft and the wake is amazing. True a VLX right from the dealership is a great wake. The X Star needs more than the factory ballast. With the pwt ballast, wow. Nothing comes close to this wake hands down, you are smoking crack if you think otherwise. The design really hasn't changed since 2004, but it doesn't have to. I have the 400 hp which is working well. The 350 would have to have the right prop if you are going to have 3,400 lbs of ballast (pwt). Only big gripe against mastercraft is the ballast pumps keep turning themselves off.

So I went out and bought the x-star after riding behind two of my buddies VLXs and a SAN210. I had never riden behind an X-star but test drove it and figured it was the one for me, right? WRONG. This boat just didn't match up to the VLX and SAN. Tower flexed, stock ballast was lame, wake shape wasn't up to par. I have since got sold the boat and purchased a 2008 VLX. It definetly was not buyers remorse, I love the VLX and have been happy with it ever since. Tower, comfort, wake, ballast, etc are all better than the X-star. Don't get me wrong, the X-Star is a good boat, but it doesn't compare to the best and when spending this kind of money, you deserve the best. Make sure to look at the Wakesetters.

We just purchased the 40th Anniversary X-Star. We took it for a test drive last weekend and it has everything! The PWT Ballast, 4 tower speakers, the special edition carpet, the 400hp engine...must i keep going? This boat is actually one that was used in the 2008 Pro Wakeboard Tour! It's sexy! In my opinion, it handled like a champ, even with the ballast filled to the max! The wake is HUGE!

first i dont think people should be rating boats they dont own. the x-star is great. one thing i learned from travis moye, is that this boat is very weight sensitive in the nose. once i got more weight up front, the wake is off the chart. btw, i added the full pro fly high automatic ballast system. that made a huge difference and again, was recommended by travis
Greatest wake you'll ever ride. Very smooth ramp without a sharp transition. Landings are great as well. Storage is tight with the PWT Ballast system, and unless you are going to wakesurf, or can shred like Malinowski or Adkison the stock ballast is more than enough for wakeboarding. I highly recommend the LY-6 400hp engine with the PWT system. No PWT Ballast the 350 is fine. The stereo system is every bit as good as anything out there and probably better. Wet Sounds speakers are the only ones that rival these JL audio's. I feel the poor reviews on this boat are due to the price tag. I agree you should expect perfection in this price range. And for all but a very few X-Star's, you get it.
crap crap crap crap crap...i cant believe i actually considered this! it was way too expensive in the first place and after 1 week at lake powell and a few runs on other lakes...the super cool 'zero flex tower' has snapped! yes you heard me right it snapped right at the weld! and no we only wakeboard and surf from the tower no tubing...thats a safety hazard right there! also boat just felt cheaply put together once again. i will say the wake is pretty nice but nothing great...personally it had too much buck to it and left my knees dunzo at the end of the day! please people go buy the wakesetter or super air both the wakes are just as good if not better...oh and just cause its in all these competitions does not mean its uber great... this boat will not last you guarenteed!!!
This is probably one of my favorite boats to be in and ride behind. I love the interior, the main area isn't huge but comfortable. The board racks are super convenient but don't hold down boards to well in big waves. The bow is super nice but dives under pretty easily (they should definately build it higher). The wake is sick if you weight it real back heavy. I would definately go for the PWT ballast system, then filling bags is as easy as flipping a switch (although we found there was a lot of air in the bags and we couldn't bleed them cuz the caps were too tight), but the wake was still really nice. It's similar to the new SAN 210 but less spray by the boat. The reason I give this boat 4 stars is because it doesn't have a hydraulic wake plate that you can put on it to help plane out. MC (and other companies such as malibu for that matter) has got to figure out that in wakeboard boats you can put in so much more weight if you have that trim tab and you can shape the wake. The x-star has a big fiberglass plate where there should be the trim tab. Love the boat but, I wouldn't even consider buying it until they put in a trim tab. Ps- make sure you get at least the 6.0 L engine and the right prop, otherwise the wake will be crappy small.
