EXAMPLE, MAGNETIC MAN, ZANE LOWE, BASTILLE, THE 1975, JACKMASTER,
MELÉ and MONKI are the first acts to be announced for Wakestock 2013!
Wakestock returns to the stunning Llyn Peninsula this July, and with preparations already in full swing for this year’s festival we’re pumped to announce EXAMPLE, MAGNETIC MAN, ZANE LOWE, BASTILLE, THE 1975, JACKMASTER, MELÉ and MONKI as the first wave of acts playing this year.
EXAMPLE has had a busy start to the year, currently touring Europe promoting his fourth album “Evolution of Man” he has a jam packed schedule that includes a trip to sunny North Wales in July. With a huge catalogue of hits that includes the Brit award nominated “Changed the Way You Kiss Me”, “Won’t go Quietly”, “Stay Awake” and with his new single “Perfect Replacement”, we can’t wait to welcome him back to Wakestock this year!
There is no more influential or ambitious dubstep act in Britain today than MAGNETIC MAN. The electronic music project fronted by three of the scene's most respected figures Skream, Benga and Artwork, has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2007. These three legends come from the deep underground roots of record shops and pirate stations, through club nights, self-funded tours and enormous festival shows. With hits including “I Need Air” and “Perfect Stranger” get ready for the audio visual spectacle that is a Magnetic Man show.
Broadcaster, DJ, producer, new music pioneer and Wakestock regular ZANE LOWE is one of the most respected names in UK music. His encyclopaedic knowledge has helped make his DJ sets renowned for their explosive energy and eclectic genre-hopping, combining old school samples, disgusting bass lines and huge drops. When we invited Zane back he told us “I can't wait to come back to Wakestock and rock the main stage. Working on new beats as we speak.”
Plus we have knock out appearances from the likes of indie newcomers BASTILLE. The band have been hard to ignore over the last few months with high profile tour support slots, Radio 1 Airplay as well as having their song “Flaws” featured on TV show 'Made in Chelsea'. Now the South Londoners current single “Pompeii” is all over the airwaves, and their debut album “Bad Blood” is set to be released next month. This band are set for great things in 2013 - watch out for them.
THE 1975 are a band to take note of in 2012. We can’t get enough of this brilliant four piece from Manchester, who have won major support from Radio One. Their alternative mix of genres is already getting them lots of attention, with a few EPs under their belt and an upcoming album set for release in May 2013 you will be hearing a lot of them this year.
That is not all! JACKMASTER will be putting in an appearance at this year’s festival. With an instinct for creating and riding the energy of a crowd, few can get a dancefloor as hyped as Jackmaster. This man has more options up his sleeve than just about any other DJ out there, and he plays anything from from techno to house, and disco to dubstep. Jackmaster has recently been announced as one of the new batch of BBC Radio 1′s “In New DJs We Trust” DJ’s and will be hosting a monthly show on the station, as well as joining the fun at Wakestock this summer.
Elsewhere on this year’s line up is DJ MELÉ. At just 20, he is already recognised as an established producer, with a series of releases that have got both artists and critics hungry for more. With a unique sound, it’s Melé’s rhythmic inventiveness, and virtuoso touches that really set him apart. His productions have a style and flair that we love, as does new music champion Annie Mac.
Joining him will be DJ MONKI. This pint sized 21 year old selector has been steadily making her way across the airwaves and dance-floors with a residency on Rinse FM and DJ gigs at clubs and festivals around Europe. She is officially endorsed by Annie Mac as a resident for the ‘AMP’ club night and has recently joined Radio 1 as part of the “In New DJs We Trust” series. She joins the likes of Jackmaster and Mosca, and following in the footsteps of Radio 1 regulars Skream and Benga, and Toddla T.
We have of course got loads more bands and DJ’s to announce over the coming weeks and months, plus news on the mind blowing wakeboarding both on site and in the waters of stunning Cardigan Bay, our infamous warm up party and and entertainments galore up on the festival site. So make sure you join us in 2013!
