Wake NationTeam Hits 506 Miles On Water

Share

Wake Nation CincinnatiCincinnati, OH - They did it!

At Wake Nation Cincinnati, a 10-member Dream Team of wakeboard riders Saturday set an officially sanctioned Guinness World Record™ for the greatest distance traveled on a wakeboard in 24 straight hours.

Starting at noon on Friday and finishing at noon on Saturday, the team rode 1,448 consecutive laps around Wake Nation’s 10-acre lake, traveling some 506.8 miles on the water.

The 1,448th and final lap was completed by Tony Finn, co-founder of Liquid Force, the biggest name in wakeboarding equipment and apparel. But Tony had some additional business – following the record-setting performance, he then conducted a wedding ceremony on the Wake Nation Cincinnati dock, marrying Tony Migliorisi and Dori Craig, a Northern Kentucky couple who are wakeboarding enthusiasts. Tony Finn became an ordained minister in Ohio for the ceremony.

The most laps completed by an individual on the Dream Team was 242 laps, turned in by Neill Barker (Liquid Force team rider), followed closely by 237 laps by Mike Olson (official distributor of the Rixen cable system.)

The Dream Team also included three wakeboard champions: Tom Fooshee (2008 World Wake Park Champion), Adam Errington (2008 World Wakeboard Association National Champion), and Amber Wing (2009 Australian National Champion). Filling out the Dream Team were Jimmy Redmon (co-founder of Liquid Force), Brian Wheeler (managing editor, Wakeboarding Magazine), and Peter Kennedy and Nick Binkley (co-owners of Wake Nation Cincinnati.)

Donations and pledges from the event benefited MedLend, a non-profit organization that provides medical missions to impoverished countries around the globe.

Located on Joe Nuxhall Way in Fairfield’s Joyce Park, the Wake Nation Cincinnati watersports’ complex opened to rave reviews one year ago as Ohio’s only watersports’ park where riders can wakeboard, water ski, kneeboard, and wakeskate around a 10-acre lake WITHOUT A BOAT. Riders are pulled around the oval lake at speeds of 18-20 miles per hour by a circulating, overhead cable system that runs 35 feet above the water. During its first season of operation, Wake Nation Cincinnati received numerous awards, including prestigious “Best Of” awards from Ohio Magazine, Cincinnati Magazine and Cincy Magazine.

New for 2010 is a smaller, second lake called “The Practice Pond” that features an “easy start” ride system, the first of its kind in the U.S. The Practice Pond is designed to give children ages five and up and beginners of all ages a place to learn to ride a wakeboard at a slower speed than on the main lake.

At Wake Nation Cincinnati, both parking and admission are FREE. The park is a “pay as you play” facility with ride time starting at $25 for two hours. Rental equipment, private lessons, group discounts, season passes and birthday parties are available.
