Extreme Sports for Athletes with Disabilities
New Braunfels, Texas- Spectators lined the shore at the Texas Ski Ranch to catch Extremity Games® 5 (eX5) wakeboarding competition. eX5 gathered athletes from all over the country who are living with a limb loss or a limb difference to compete for prizes. TSR was the perfect venue with accommodating facilities and a professional staff that assisted in every way possible. CWB Board Co. was the exclusive board sponsor as they provided board packages for everyone on the podium stand. CWB also had demo and product displays that were accessible to everyone throughout the day. The wakeboarding competition ended in the late afternoon were clinics and exhibitions followed.
Billy Tonis took 1st place as he stood-up his 4 minute heats displaying the west coast riding style with huge back and cab rolls in the flats. Mike Schultz placed 2nd as he consistently threw down wake to wake runs to sneak past newcomer Brandon Robins who stomped his signature scarecrows. Other notables were Amy Purdy, Jim Wazny and Conner Howe. In typical fashion, the athletes gathered and supported each individual as they competed.
“Extremity Games motivates me as an athlete and as a competitor. It is a very emotional experience that puts a perspective on life people rarely see,” said Billy Tonis. “The athletes will humble you with their stories and then compete with their hearts. Extremity Games is the only place I know where determination is witnessed.”
