Oklahoma Riders Dominate Red Bull Boarder Wars

Wakeboarders From Three States Take Border Battle to the Wake at Lake Texoma

Red Bull Boarder WarsPOTTSBORO, Texas - A crowd of nearly 500 Memorial Day lake-goers gathered near Mill Creek Marina as 45 collegiate and high school wakeboarders from Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana threw down their best tricks for a chance to take top honors at Red Bull Boarder Wars. After a grueling day of competition, Oklahoma State University riders Matt McCaleb and RachelWakeskate Winners - Brennan Thompson (2nd, Louisiana Tech), Rachel Wardrip (1st, Oklahoma State University) and Wayland Morgan (3rd, Louisiana Tech) Wardrip racked up the top team score of 139 points to win collegiate team honors.

Riders were judged by a panel of industry experts from Sasser Wakeboard School including Clay Stewart, Colton Greer and Connor Bytton judging on execution, style and amplitude. The team and individual with the highest score at the end of the day went home with bragging rights, a custom designed Ronix wakeboard, and an Oakley prize package.

“I was really nervous right before the tournament, but once I started riding I forgot the judges were even watching me,” said Rachel Wardrip, of the winning team. “This is without a doubt one of the most fun tournaments I’ve ever been to.”

Red Bull Boarder WarsCollegiate Riders representing Oklahoma State University, University of Central Oklahoma, Tarleton State, University of Texas, University of North Texas, University of Texas at San Antonio, Midwestern State University, Louisiana Tech, University of Louisiana at Monroe all came to showcase their skills in the wake. Two “Best of High School” teams representing Oklahoma and Texas also came out to show their skills and compete.

Dallas FridayA highlight of the day included 15-year-old Oklahoma high school rider, Gunner Daft, as he thrilled spectators with a challenging KGB as part of his top scoring run.

“Seeing all the young rippers and college kids kill it on the water has shown me how much our sport has taken off,” said Dallas Friday. “I have to say, these Oklahoma groms really come to play!”

Other winners included:

Best Individual Wakeboarders - Ryan Anderson-First (Oklahoma State University), Taylor Kress-Second (University of Central Oklahoma), and Matt McCaleb-third (Oklahoma State University)

Top High School Team — Oklahoma riders Gunner Daft, Cameron Colburn, Mitch Burnett, Ben Bernie, Chandler Frost, Dylan Branch

Best Individual Wake Skaters — Rachel Wardrip-First (Oklahoma State University), Brennan Thompson-Second (Louisiana Tech), and Wayland Morgan-Third (Louisiana Tech)

Best Individual Female Wakeboarders —Texas high school rider Katelyn Fenner-First, and Megan Sasser-Second (University of North Texas)
