Seattle, Washington - INT is excited to introduce the new wakesurf scoring format. Wakesurfing is relatively new to the water sports community, but it’s popularity is growing rapidly on lakes across the country. Wakesurfing can be done behind any wakeboard boat by putting all of the ballast on one side of the boat and surfing in the curl right behind the swim plat form.
INT and our partners have been working on this project for over a year now to create a format that can be used at any event, for riders of any level. There are divisions for riders who are still learning how to let go of the rope, all the way up to Open Skim and Open Surf.
“Our hope is to create some consistency in the judging and scoring of wake surf comps,” says Rick Stocks, founder of the INT League. “We are setting the groundwork for state and regional events that will lead to world wakesurf competitions.”
INT would like to welcome anyone who would like to host a wake surf event to contact us. INT and WWA can provide event insurance, event organization training, and a turn-key event promotion system.
The details of the judging and scoring format can be found in the INT Insider and Rulebook on the INT website, or you can pick up a copy at your local dealer or INT event. Much of the credit goes Jeff Page of Inland Surfer, Todd Gaughan of Towanza.com, Mike Armstrong and all the guys at the American Wakesurf Association for their help developing this program.
Wakesurf will be offered at some, but not all INT events in 2011 due to the required water depth. Please check the schedule of events to find a surf event near you.
