Great Lakes Signs Licensing Agreement for Boat Cover Suspension System

HangtyteVONORE, TENN. - Great Lakes Boat Top and Cobe Mik, Inc. have signed an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement that will give Great Lakes Boat Top access to an innovative boat cover suspension system. The patented Hangtyte design features a clamshell that is easily affixed to a mooring cover for a boat with a wakeboard tower. A line extends from the clamshell to the tower pylon with a ratcheting device that pulls the cover taut to prevent water accumulation even during the heaviest downpours.

“We’re excited about bringing this unique product to our dealers, OEMs and other aftermarket channels,” said Jim Wilson, President of Great Lakes Boat Top. “For boats with towers, it eliminates the need for a pole to elevate the canvas. The ratchet allows you to pull the cover tight. We’re also looking at potential future applications like boats with t-tops or Biminis.”

HangtyteHangtyte inventor Cobe Mikacich developed the system after years of frustration with water pooling on his boat’s mooring cover. “In Florida, we get torrential rains every afternoon in the spring,” Mikacich said. “Invariably, so much water can accumulate that a mooring cover pole will either shift or collapse and then you’re stuck trying to bail the water out or getting soaked crawling under the cover to stand the pole up. Securing a line from the cover to the tower was a simple and effective solution.”

Great Lakes Boat Top makes custom canvas solutions for many of the world’s leading boat manufacturers. “Many of our boat builders offer models equipped with wakeboard towers,” said Wilson. “Hangtyte will give them another feature they can promote that makes boat ownership easier for their customers.”

Great Lakes Boat Top’s parent company is Marine Accessories Corporation which also owns Westland Industries – an aftermarket source for mooring covers and universal-fit Bimini tops; Z5 Sport Racks which builds tilting cargo board racks; and two wakeboard tower companies – Monster Tower and Xtreme Tower Products.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better partner to garner exposure and sales of the Hangtyte system,” said Mikacich. “Great Lakes Boat Top and its sister companies have strong OEM and retail channels in the mooring cover arena and tower segments. It’s a perfect match.”

Hangtyte will be featured at IBEX, Oct. 2-4, in booth #2429. For more information, contact Great Lakes Boat Top at 877-867-7861.
