Goleta, Calif. – Teva (a division of the Deckers Outdoor Corporation, NASDAQGS: DECK) deepens its commitment to the world of wake by welcoming pro athletes Dieter Humpsch and Lior Sofer to its team. The partnerships are a logical step for the brand following the successful launch of the ‘Gnarkosi’ and its own Sesitec 2.0 wake park in the Netherlands, the Teva Blue Line.
Born in the coastal town of Umhlanga Rocks on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Dieter “Diets” Humpsch is best known for his smooth and effortless style as well as his merits as a filmmaker on and off the water. Claiming “most improved wakeskater” in 2011, Humpsch continues to step up his game with a progressive riding style on a variety of fronts. The two year partnership with the action outdoor brand, Teva, will also include Humpsch involvement with future product development projects.
“Bru! I’m stoked to partner with a brand that is committed to the evolution of wake,” says Dieter Humpsch. “I got a peek at the new kicks coming out this summer and after that, my decision was easy.”
Lior Sofer grew up in Rishon LeZion, a town just outside Tel Aviv, where he learned to wakeboard at an early age. The 27-year-old Israeli is now one of the world’s top wakeboaders and won the European Cable Wakeboard championships in 2011. Lior’s partnership will last for the next two years.
“I’m so happy with this partnership. It is such a great honour to be part of Teva and to have a big brand like Teva supporting me. I love their brand DNA, innovative products and fresh approach to everything they do,” said Sofer.
“We have always had a great passion for wake and we have channelled that passion into our products and initiatives,” says Barry Schmits, Teva marketing manager. “It feels like a great reward for all the hard work we’ve done in the past few years that Dieter and Lior have chosen us, believe in our brand and are willing to be our ambassadors. We couldn’t be prouder!”
Humpsch and Sofer will join Teva’s existing wake team which includes professional riders Matt Hooker from the U.S. and Matt Crowhurst from the U.K.
