Professional Wake Surfing competitions have traditionally segmented riders into two distinctive classifications (divisions) called Skim Board and Surf style based on the type and size of the board that the competitors ride. The classifications were designed to help keep the competition evenly matched as some tricks are more difficult depending on the board’s shape and size. A developing trend however, has seen the most accomplished riders complete the more difficult maneuvers on both board types.
