I managed to get out of work early and we headed up to The Hyperlite Experience on the Carlsbad Lagoon on what seemed to be a rare sunny day during our month of June gloom. Jimmy LaRiche and Ben Sims of Hyperlite were in town for a demo day of all 2013 Hyperlite products.
The origins of wakeboarding come straight from the Carlsbad Lagoon and the surrounding areas of north San Diego County. It was the first time we were able to meet Jimmy and ride with him in person. I have not ridden a Hyperlite product since my days on the TFD DNA and the Premier shapes. Needless to say I was well overdue to try these new products that are taking the market by storm.
My son Jack ended up on the Hyperlite Franchise, Jimmy’s signature model, and loved it as well as the AJ bindings. He ended up throwing the biggest wake-to-wake 180 I have ever seen him land and the smiles made it all worth it to me. I even managed to get launched a few times by the Hyperlite B-Side. The system bindings were very comfortable as well. I really like the feeling of being more attached to the board.
Jimmy LaRiche has to be one of the most down-to-earth riders on the Pro Tour these days. The water was not his usual Florida temperature, but he took a few pulls and simply shredded up the Lagoon for fun and it was great to see!
We left the event with a nice bag of shwag, which included a nice new Hyperlite trucker hat, The Hyperlite Experience T-shirt, a couple of koozies and stickers. If you are one of the lucky ones who can make it out to The Hyperlite Experience this summer, you may also get to ride behind a G25. Thank you Hyperlite, Jimmy LaRiche, and Ben Sims for making this happen this summer. Go to Hyperlite.com to get signed up. Space is limited so don’t miss this great opportunity to ride with one of the best and demo some great wake products.
