Just days before the annual Transworld Wakeboarding Wake Awards at Surf Expo, we headed out to Rusty Malinoski's house to watch a few riders attempt tricks for consideration for the Oakley Wakeboarding Move of the Year award. As we walked out onto the dock, our esteemed photographer/videographer, Arun Frances, pulled out his camera and shot this slow-mo video of of the eventual winning entry, Steel Lafferty's toeside backside 900.

Steel beat out the following hammers to take the award:

  • Trevor Hansen - Double back roll (wake to wake)
  • Randall Harris - Wrapped indy 360
  • Randall Harris - Half cab front
  • Randall Harris - Heelside mute 900

  • Bob Sove - Double front roll 180
  • Nick Jones - Front roll 720
  • Keith Lidberg - Switch boardslide
  • Harley Clifford - Heelside nose grab mobe 720
  • Harley Clifford - Backside 1080
  • Dylan Miller - Gap to back lip hand rail
  • Erik Ruck - Mute double half cab roll
  • Aaron Rathy - Heelside Melan osmosis 720
  • Steel Lafferty - Backside 1080

Steel also picked up the Check Out award, which goes to an up-and-coming rider with a lot of promise.

Best Women’s Rider

Best Wake Park Rider

The Best Wake Park Rider is a rider who dominated in the last 365 days at full-size cable parks as well as System 2.0 parks, considering contests, videos, magazine coverage, etc. This rider kills it on air tricks as well as rails, transfers, kickers, etc. He is also a great ambassador for this growing segment of our industry. And The Winner Is: Tom Fooshee

Rail Master

The Rail Master is a rider who stands out most on all kinds of rails. This rider shows a good mix of technical and stylish riding, including contests, winch, PWC, cable, System 2.0 and web videos. Past Winners: ‘06 Shane Bonifay | ‘07 Keith Lidberg | ‘08 J.D. Webb | ‘09 J.D. Webb And The Winner Is: Raphael Derome

Photographer of the Year

Photographer of the Year is someone who captured innovative, creative and inspiring images on a consistent basis all year, including cover shots, editorial exposure, advertisements and catalogs. Best Video Performance — Wakeboard

This is awarded to both the rider and producer, with consideration given to both the level of riding and filming/editing. This is a new award for 2010. The Best Web video is the voters’ favorite video that has come out on the Internet, considering the quality of filming/editing, riding and entertainment value. And The Winner Is: ATL Pro Tour Voiceover/Silas Thurman, Parks Bonifay and Kevin Henshaw

Best Video

Best Wakeskater

The Best Wakeskater is someone who is most dominant, considering all aspects including lip tricks, wake moves, rails, contests, video sections and special events, with proficiency in PWC, boat, winch and cable riding. The Legend

This rider has always pushed the wake industry and consistently contributed in multiple aspects to the betterment of wake and its lifestyle. This person has become synonymous with the sport. The Best Wakeboarder is someone who rides better than everyone else and excels in every aspect of wakeboarding, from wake moves to rails to double-ups. Consideration should also be made for magazine exposure, cover shots, contest results, video sections and overall commitment to the sport on a daily basis. Oakley Move Of The Year Awards

This award is for the single most impressive, sickest, innovative and progressive move pulled all year, with categories for wakeboarding, wakeskating and women.

When did he get so dang good! Always heard of him on the pwt but never knew he was this good, back 10 and toe back 9!!!!???
