Katie's Story - Part 1
Back in August WakeWorld ran a story about a local girl from pro wakeboarder Taylor McCullough's hometown, Katie Crouch, who was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called retinoblastoma. After auctioning off a wakeboard covered with autographs of pro riders, along with several other items, Taylor was able to generate enough money to finance a very special surprise for Katie and her family. When we left off back in August, the story was left in suspense because Katie's family had not been told about the surprise that was in store for them.
If you have been following Katie's friends on Facebook then you may have already seen the video of them being presented with their trip to Walt Disney World. With the help of many amazing people, we all were able to send this family on an all-expense paid three-day trip to Disney World.
It all started on November 14th when they arrived at the airport where Katie had a stretched limo with the red carpet treatment waiting for her arrival courtsey of AboveAndBeyondLimo.com. Inside the limo, Katie was greeted with numerous stuffed Disney plush toys, bright lights and Disney music playing on the radio. Katie was then off to Hurricane Grill and Wings in Longwood, Florida for a quick dinner before going to Disney's Old Key West Hotel. At the hotel Katie was greeted with balloons and more gifts were left in her room for the next few days.
Katie spent the early part of the next day at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The afternoon had Katie visiting Bippidi Boppidi Boutique where she received a princess makeover complete with hair, nails, glitter and even a Snow White outfit. After the makeover, it was on to the Princess Dinner at Epcot where Katie got to meet all the Disney Princesses and even had a private greeting with them. Katie ended her day at Epcot with the IllumiNations fireworks show.
Saturday morning was the big day at the Magic Kingdom where Katie got to ride almost all of the rides in the park. I think her two favorite rides were Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This was an awesome experience for Katie and her family. It was also a great experience for Taylor and I to help this family forget the time they had during the cancer treatment.
Again, I cannot say THANK YOU enough to everyone involved in this. It just goes to show what can happen when someone has an idea and a passion to help out! Thanks to Taylor McCullough, Tony and Tonya Oxford, Disney managers, Kevin Sutton Show, Mike Ferraro, Betsy T, AboveAndBeyondLimo.com, all the riders that autographed the board, Dave at WakeWorld and anyone else I may have forgotten. Lastly, a big thanks to Katie, Eli, Payton, Janet, and TJ Crouch for allowing us to be a part of their journey!
