Total Amount Raised: $6,321
WakeWorld owner, David Williams, hands off a $2,530.05 check to Sgt. Patrick Russ of the Marine Corps
It was 80 degrees last Saturday and I was sweating like crazy as I loaded up my truck with the almost $4,000 worth of toys we had just purchased from Walmart (see 264-item receipt below). We were getting a lot of stares as my wife and three kids and I escorted five shopping carts, stuffed to the gills, along with five BMX bikes through the check out and out to the truck. In fact, we bought so many toys that we couldn't fit them all in the truck and had to pitch a few into the Toys For Tots bins out in front of the store! Our total bill for five shopping carts worth of toys was $3,791.22, which broke our previous record of $3,034.
It was all part of our 4th Annual Toys For Tots Holiday Fundraiser. Our great sponsors and you, the readers, came through in a big way yet again to help in our efforts to make the holiday season a little brighter for some less-privileged children. We managed to raise $6,321 for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys For Tots program, bringing our grand total to almost $21,000 over the four years we've been doing it! The amount that we didn't spend on toys ($2,530.05) was presented to Toys For Tots in cash.
Sgt. Patrick Russ and the rest of the Marines running the Toys For Tots program at the Marine Corps here in San Diego were super appreciative or our toy and cash donation, especially since donations to the program have been down for 2008. Not only did Toys For Tots benefit, but 46 lucky WakeWorld readers got some great deals on wake gear packages in the process.
The WakeWorld "elves" help with the offloading of the toys
Although we were super stoked on all our sponsor donations this year, I'd like to make special mention of CWB Board Co.
due to the extreme generosity of their donation. Not only did they kick down three pro model wakeboards signed by their top three riders, but they also pitched in nine pairs of bindings and four rope/handle packages with a total retail value of $5,360! CWB Board Co.
's donations brought in $1,913, which represents over 30% of our proceeds! Thanks guys!
I'd also like to make mention of Walmart. I didn't even ask them for a discount and they walked up out of the blue and knocked $250 off the bill since it was going to Toys For Tots. Walmart rules!
Here is a complete list of the companies and individuals that generously donated goods to make this happen...
The whole idea behind our annual benefit was to put together some kind of charity event as we head into the holiday season each year. Suggestions from sponsors gave us the push we needed to put together an auction of wakeboarding packages for charity and it's been going great for four years now. Toys For Tots
seemed like a great charity to receive the benefits from our fundraiser since they spread so much goodwill throughout the holiday season.

Toys For Tots collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
