Here we are in year number five of our annual survey of wakeboarders around the world and the response has once again exceeded all expectations with our biggest voter turnout ever. The Riders Choice Awards give you the chance to let the riders and manufacturers know who and what you like for the 2005 season. In addition to sounding off, each entrant got the chance to pick up some free wake goodies from Hyperlite, Spy, Billabong and Sidewayz.
As you can see from the prize list below, Hyperlite, our presenting sponsor, hooked up our winners big time with all kinds of equipment, while our other sponsors made sure our winners look stylish and have plenty to do when they're off the water! Check your email inbox to see if you're the winner of one of the following prizes...
So what do the results look like this year? We have a new rider, Daniel Watkins, joining the ranks of the Top Male Wakeboarders with Andrew Adkison and Phillip Soven making the biggest jumps up the ladder. Tara Hamilton and Danny Hampson step up as well in the Top Female Wakeboarders and Top Wakeskaters categories respectively. Scott Byerly is once again the only rider to place in both the wakeboarding and wakeskating categories. There's no surprise for Rookie of the Year and the Most Improved Rider is picking up the award for the second year in a row!
The Wakeboard of the Year category was the closest we've ever had in the history of the Riders Choice Awards with a Hyperlite board coming out on top for the fourth year out of the five years we've been doing this. A Liquid Force binding breaks the stranglehold that Hyperlite has held on the Binding of the Year category since 2001. Cassette returns to the top of the heap in the Wakeskate of the Year category while Hyperlite completely dominates the Wakesurf Board of the Year category.
Do we have a new winner in the Boat of the Year category? No, but there is a shuffle up in the top three. The Innovation of the Year race was tight, but Hyperlite ended up with top honors. Finally, Video of the Year went to a DVD released by Liquid Force Films.
