Yeah, I just don't understand why the various sources I watched/read said to use 3/16", even though it was clearly too small.

I just used a much larger bit (run in reverse) to countersink it and grind away the gelcoat about 1/16" around the hole. I saw that tip somewhere - hopefully it's as good as using a specific bit like you mentioned.

13/64" worked. I actually got gel coat cracking around the 3/16 hole I tried (I hadn't done the countersink yet, but was just trying to briefly test the screw... now I know to never put in a screw even temporarily until you've countersunk the sur...

On other forums I read that problems might only manifest at speed because of the additional rudder pressure. Not sure if that means there's a problem with the cable on my boat - just what I read.

Is it likely that lots of hard turns would affect that? I end up having to pull kids tubing a couple of times a year (for the few years I've had the boat), and I worried that all the hard turns would do damage but the boat dealer and another mech...

FYI, I read on some other forum that Marine-Tex can crumble after a certain amount of time (years I assume), and that West System epoxy is supposed to be the best. (Please (you or anyone) let me know if you think otherwise. I'm ignorant on this....

Okay I'll look into that. The rudder itself was supposedly greased at the end of last year.
