I had an issue with my center hard tank pump on my 06 VLX. I picked up a tsunami pump versus the stock unit.

The pump that was in there was basically laying on the hull with the fitting loose (fitting that goes into tank), so the pump was really free to flop around. When I re-installed the new pump, I was going to use epoxy on the parts that won't need to be dis-assembled for any servicing. I was thinking this way, the pump could stay perpendicular to the bottom of the tank versus the pump laying on the hull. Will I have any draining issues with the pump straight up and down on the tank, or is it beneficial to have it flopped to the side (lower).

Hard to explain exactly what I am getting at, I will snap a picture tonight also.

Here us what I am talking about... Up and down (like shown) or laying on its side. I assume it would suck the tank drier of it was on its side?

i also have to replace my center ballast pump on my 06 vlx so definitely keep us posted how it turns out!

Remember that aerator pumps are not self priming. Once you get to a certain water level in the tank there will not be enough water pressure to push up past the elbow and through the intake. If the pump is not on it's side the tanks will always have a little water left in them.

I would put the pump on it's side with the outlet pointing up.

I guess I will end up giving it a test run with it straight up and down.... There was a small crack in the threaded female end on the tank and I put epoxy on the male threads and threaded it in to prevent it from cracking more, the other elbow is already glued as well.

Hopefully at plowing speed with the bow up, most the water will drain, otherwise I will have to find a way to loosen up the elbow and move it back to resting on the hull..
