I moved the tie down out to the guide pole to make room for the 15" slimline lights. Im gonna run all clear lens led lights and smoke them just enough to take the edge off. The stainless steel fenders are 11" wide but they dont look bad with the 245/45/18 tires

Looking good, but how did a 6 year old trailer get to look like that so quick? Salt?

Lionel, my Sanger trailer was almost that bad after 2 years. I think part of my problem was that I didn't tow at all. The boat went into the water and back out into storage. It never gave the trailer time to dry under the diamond plate. Either way, it was a huge upgrade when I got a Master Craft and it had a really nice trailer with fiberglass fenders. Never another rust issue for me.

Damn....Rockstars on the trailer....don't think I have seen those before. Want them for my rig...looks nice.

sweet! those malibu cut outs are trick!

main question, are those just car tires on the trailer now? not trailer tires? always wondered this when people put rims on their trailers.
My boat had 18" wheels when I got it, owner hopped a curb while taking it on the test drive and had to put new tires wheels and tires, old tires turned out to be car tires.

Evan, I have an 05 MC trailer with the fiberglass fenders........Doing an LED swap this winter, no rust issues on the trailer, obviously a little thicker than metal fenders tho... IIRC this year MC has 3 levels of trailers now, base = metal fenders, mid-fiberglass, high-low pro trailer.

Wow, amazed it rusted so bad that quick. My '89 trailer is still in good condition. A little rust through the paint here and there but nothing that bad. Was even used in salt for at least a year. Nice work fixing it up though. Looking good!

Looks awesome.... Except for one thing: Cockstars. That ruined all the great work, IMO.

Looking really good!!! I need to embark down the same raod with my '05 Sanger trailer.

Are you planning on repainting the trailer or using some other finish on it??? I thought about maybe just doing some roll on bed liner.

I havent decided on powder coat or paint. I noticed a little bondo at the weld near the tail lights. Im gonna sand it down and see what it looks like. Id like to powder coat it but if it needs body work...... straight to the paint booth. I was looking at a ton of different wheels and a lot of them didn't fit dew to the oil bath hubs. When I bought the rockstars they were just money, I couldn't be happier with them. I'll have to take some pics in the daytime for you guys.

What size tires and rims are you running on this upgrade? Also - how many bones did the "malibu" cut out side steps cost you? Looks good!

Sweet fix up Mike.

Your before picks look like a prime example of galvanic corrosion when dissimilar metals are in contact.

The pics show a shiny nut, but I wonder what the bolt for it was made of. Look what that bolt did to the sheet metal fender.

I just got my led lights! Im running 10 red lights on each side with an ultima bilge pump switch. I covered the new bunks with some black carpet from home depot and installed the 15" slimline lights last night. I've decided to use an epoxy primer and paint the trailer gloss black. Hopefully next friday i can have the trailer sand blasted and ill paint it on sat/sun.

Im planning on NOT using the aluminum diamond plate that came on the steps and fenders. I want to find a nice black mat traction pad like on a fiberglass swim deck for the steps.

Dude, i got the same trailer and i too had rust problems. GREAT trailer, loved towing it! But i dont think they primed my trailer. I did have chrome finders with no dimond plate or probs there but had to remove the dimond plate (that did not fall of) in front and back of the finders, grind, prime, paint and reattach. I just sold this boat and trailer like 2 weeks ago and before i did i wanted to redo the bunks and recarpet them aswell. when i removed the bucks the brackets where extremely rusted as well. Grind, prime, and 4 coats of paint all good. Several other little things i did too, NOTHING like your job, SWEEET JOB!! but these are VERY nice trailers just i few BAD little thing can make your wonder?!? Mine is about an 2005, redid the diamond plate like in '08! Dang sure should have be better than that, no doubt!

First Pix is Close up of trailer bunker braket after grind and repaint
Second is not close up
Third is boat getting acid wash on hull while i rework trailer
FORTH is my new RIDE! LOL!

Mike, where'd you get the LED's for the runway lights? I know they sell them at Boatmate, but they seem kinda high....

I bought the led lights from R and P carriages on ebay. They came really fast and were 1/2 price of boatmates lights....

Looks great! On the slimline brake lights, it looks like from your marker outline in the earlier pics that the new lights are shorter in height than the old-did you have to close up that opening at all or does the new trim ring cover it up.

are those Maxxima lights? Check out www.grandgeneral.com for lights as well.

http://www.grandgeneral.com/index.ph...mart&Itemid=13

or

http://www.grandgeneral.com/index.ph...ucts&Itemid=71

I rep for Grand General and know the quality difference between GG and Maxxima, GG manufacturers all of there own stuff and quality wise is MUCH better than most of the other lighting sources. The good thing about most of the better lighting companies is that there products all carry lifetime warranty.

So everything wens super smooth... i piked up the trailer from the sand blaster on fri at 6pm. Did all the body work on sat. and I sprayed 2 coats of epoxy primer and 2 coats of single stage black, baked it dry and put it all together sunday. It was a lot of work but it was WELL worth it

Ok, third time asking has to be the charm.... Are they trailer tires or car tires on those rims?

I dont care who answers, im just curious as to what tires people typically put on these trailers when they put big rims on them.

sweet. any idea what brand? my google search didnt come up with much. when I got my boat the prev owner had some 18" wheels with car tires on the trailer. didnt think that was a great way to do it.
Old    Hate N Pain (hatepain)      Join Date: Aug 2006       02-21-2011, 3:01 PM Reply
I'm the one F'ing with you they're car tires. I have them on mine and was worried about heat and have never had a single issue nor noticed any excessive heat. i check them everytime I stop on longer trips.
Old    Hate N Pain (hatepain)      Join Date: Aug 2006       02-21-2011, 3:06 PM Reply
The tire stores around me wouldn't even put car tires on the rims unless they didn't have to bolt them on the trailer, so I just did it here at work. I figure that since the trailer companies themselves are starting to put them on the heat issue must not be that big of a deal and as I said I haven't noticed any ill effects. When I was doing my research I asked a lot of guys on here and they all came back with the same thing, no problems. I did choose to go with a little smaller rim and more sidewall to keep the ride cushioned. I did 205/60/16's on mine.

haha i can never tell whos messing with me any more!!! i guess its ok to use them then, as long as you dont leave the trailer sitting for a long period of time cause flat spots can form on car tires

Very nice. I so wish I could do some of that to mine. It is starting to see some rust after 8 years and time to get done.
Old    Mike Pelonio (1sikkvlx)      Join Date: Apr 2009       02-22-2011, 12:56 PM Reply
The tires I put on are just car tires. I made sure they could handle the load and that was it. I have towed trailers with car tires and with my truck, I can't tell the diff. The only thing is to make sure you take wide turns, low pro tires don't like curbs... The runway lights and back lighting for the steps are on the way. I forgot that the boat has to be off the trailer to drill the holes. Ill post the pics when I'm done.

Thanks, Preston

looks awesome. it would look cool to put lights behind the Malibu cut outs on the steps in front and back of the fenders. red or blue

My galvanized trailer rusted like crazy under all the "Malibu" stickers and anti skid. I pulled all that off. The naked galvanized trailer is a thing of beauty after 11 years outside and an occasional dip in the salt.
