Ok my boat has a decent finish to it but there are several surface scratches all around the boat. I tried sanding them with 800 1000 and 1500 grit and it has gotten nearly all of them out I tried. The deeper ones i filled with gelcoat. I was considering wetsanding the entire boat but maybe I should just hit the bad spots with wetsanding and then polish the entire boat? Im wanting to get that new look back.

I wouldn't wetsand the entire boat. Just do as you have. Hit the bad ones, fill the deep ones. You may try hitting the entire boat with some rubbing compound if your that concerned followed by polishing. Essentially rubbing compound is a ultra find sand paper.

Would 3m rubbing compound work? I bought it and hit a few spots seems to do ok. What kind of pad should I use when using the more gritty component with my polisher??

Hey Mason, I use the Maquiars Compound with one of their foam pads (the firmer one). You can use wool, if you want to go a bit more aggressive. I really like the Maquaiars. I used it on the whole boat, then followed up with a very soft foam and polish. Gel coat looks brand new after this. Hit it afterward with wax and youre good to go. Hope this helps
