Hey guys...I'll be graduating from college in about a year with an economics degree. I wanted to see what all was out there and if anyone here could give me any pointers. I've looked into some of the basic jobs I can use my degree, but maybe someone can point me into a direction I've never thought of. I'm open to anything. Thanks!

You can do just about anything is a degree in Econ.
I graduated in 2004 with a BA in Ecnomics and started in retail management, then moved on to recreation management and moved my way up to the sales director for a major ski area. When I realized that kind of schedule wasn't for me long term I moved into the public sector in criminal justice adminstration. In all three jobs my employer was less concerned with the actual course of study than with my critical thinking, writing, and management skills.
Any work experience and internships will set you apart from the rest.
Good luck!

I graduated with a degree in Econ and unless you plan on getting your doctorate, chances are you won't be working doing anything that directly relates to economics

I used to get frustrated when I was job searching just before graduating because I (at the time) wished I would have done something like nursing, teaching, accounting, etc... basically anything where you get a degree and get a job in the specific field. I used to think that it would make job searching so much easier. Now that a few years have passed I have realized that most places don't care about what your degree is in, just so long as you have one.

I graduated and started working for a health insurance company doing an entry level job that only required a high school diploma. I hated the job, but in this economy it was work. I got laid off after 18 months (best thing ever) and landed an awesome job working for a glass & window company. I do some accounting, marketing, and general management. Nothing directly related to my degree in econ, but I wouldn't have gotten the job with having the degree.

I have found that anything that nearly all jobs that 'require' a business degree will also accept someone with an Econ degree. Many job descriptions say 'Preferred candidates should posses a degree in business or related field blah blah blah...'

Best of luck in your search! The current job market really sucks and I feel for anyone who is currently job hunting. Hang in there!
