We are going to Vegas for my wife's 25th birthday on May 21st and 22nd. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a nice lounge/slash bar to chill in. Our plan is as follows let me know what you guys think:
Arrive 21st Staying at Aria

Looking for a nice low key dinner and lounge for this night
22nd going to Craftsteak for dinner
Got bottle service at Tryst for the birthday night

Thanks, Mike

Sounds like an awesome time! Have fun, I will check with my Vegas clan and see what suggestions they might have.

Olympic Garden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of the hotels have the bars that are nice to chill. We stayed at NY NY and we would usually head to the Grand and they had a bar where we would usually kick things off. If they are still there, Boardwalk has a Prince cover band, Purple Rain, and they are great. Get there early if you want a good seat.

Olympic Garden... ahhhhh....

The Blue Man Group rocks. I've seen previews for Kha which looks amazing. Wind tunnel for a skydiving adventure. I hear they have a zip line down the tower now where you can drop 850 feet. Hypnosis Gone Wild was awesome! You can find half off tickets and make sure you volunteer to be on stage. It was a riot! The Venetian is just plain beautiful to see.

We were going to go to clubs two nights in a row but we were worried we would party too hard the first night and not enjoy the nice dinner and the club on my wifes actual birthday. That is why we are looking for something a little more mellow. Anyone have any experience with Tryst? I have never really been to a night club so it should be something different for sure. We got a penthouse suite at aria so I am really excited to see what the room is like. We are going with someone who has never been to vegas so is should be cool to see their reaction.
Phatboy get your butt there. There was a two bottle minimum at Tryst so I got some extra room!!

Go to Rehab at the Hard Rock...the most amazing pool party I have ever been to!

Olympic Garden. I will have to tell my wife's two brothers about that place. My wife is not to down with the strip club.

The O.G. is not your typical strip club. Imagine most of the beautiful strippers you have ever seen, they would be serving drinks at the O.G. These girls are centerfold material {if my memory is correct and I wasn't too hammered}. Sucks walking out of there after the sun has risen. Just surprise your wife, it's Vegas, she'll probably have a great time.

I would love to go and get in on that bottle service, but I have three trips to vegas already planned this summer. Too much as it is , but I appreciate the offer. From what I understand from my buddies who regularly tour the strip, the big pool parties are on Sundays with the Hard Rock leading the charge.

I stayed at Aria last month and it's the best place I've ever stayed in Vegas. I'm kind of over the Vegas scene but if I ever go back I will definitely be staying at Aria or one of it's sister boutique hotels there.

Wow, Aria looks pimp. I'm about to book that Aria Corner Suite for june.

J-Rod check the deals because I got the penthouse suite for a hundred bucks more a night. And it comes with limo service to and from the airport. Plus a special check in and reception area that has complementry drinks. I obviously will give a report after we go. But it is still three weeks away.

Nice! Did you have to call for that deal?

Mike right across from City Center on the north corner of Planet Hollywood is the Cabo Wabo Cantina, huge outdoor seating area overlooking the strip. I haven't stopped in and don't know anything else about it but could be a cool place to hang out and people watch.

First Food and bar at the Palazzo is starting to get a good rep for a place to hang out. I went upstairs one night to grab a beer and it had a pretty good vibe, didn't stay long though. http://firstfoodandbar.com/#/home/

The Rock house at the Imperial Palace seems to be coming up in conversation a lot also, have never been there. http://therockhousebar.com/

Everyone is trying to get/keep business, so it is getting cheaper to do things on the strip.

We tend to go to "old vegas" Freemont street, always good for people watching, really cheap to drink, it's good till about 11:00pm then slowly turns into a ghost town. Easier for us locals to get to and leave and not deal with the strip.

Don't eat to much at Craftsteak you should have a great meal there they really never disappoint. Tryst is a great club as is their sister club at Encore XS, you can't go wrong there. Have fun

Originally I wanted to go to XS. And I couldn't get in. Then I called the Aria concierge and they got us into XS. But it was only friday night. If we wanted to go on saturday night it was a three bottle min. ANd that is just a little to rich for me. Our host says Tryst is more our scence because we are married. XS more or a pick up joint.. Never really been to club like this with bottle service. Can't wait!!

Dont forget to get some tickets to the price is right... That was the most fun we had in vegas the whole last trip...

Mike! If you like sushi...check out RA on the strip...killer deals on Sake Bombs!

The Peppermill Lounge is pretty cool....it has an old school Vegas feel...dark with a fire pit in the middle of the room.

The Piano Bar in NY NY is great...more of a fun party atmosphere, but they kick ass on piano and do fun cover songs. One of the pianists also plays guitar and rips it up. I suggest requesting Runnin With the Devil.

If you plan on playing poker...check out the Luxor's poker room for cash games...the dealers are really cool. Doug and Danny are good ones....they always yell "Noonan" when I walk in...It almost makes me feel like Norm from Cheers even though I only go there maybe 1.5 times a year! HA!

If you wanna play a tournament, I think the Hard Rock had a deepstack 10,000 starting chip tourney for like $125.

Other than that...the Tropicana has a great (not too expensive...maybe $13-15) champagne brunch...last time I went I went at 11 and walked out at 3:00pm plenty buzzed and ready for the evening!

Have fun Brotha...we're going Memorial Day weekend. May try to satellite into one of the WSOP tourneys. The $1,500 NL tourney starts May 31st and I may try to play that one if I can win enough cash to cover entry without touching my bank account. We'll see. Let me know what you guys end up doing and what you thought!

Dan,
I used to hit up the Piano bar all the time. That is one of my favorites. Don't know if I will have much time for poker only being there for two days and it being my wife's birthday. I might sit down and play some cash games for a little bit. But with vegas prices coming way down I am probably going to schedule a trip in the fall to go there and play some poker.

My wife and I just got back from Vegas. The best site for Vegas nightclub and pool party information is going to be jackcolton.com. We did Tao Beach and Wet Republic pool parties as well as Tao nightclub one night. If it were me, I'd recommend Tao nightclub. The line is insane, but if you eat at Tao Resturaunt that evening you can skip about 500 peopl in line and get in for free.

I can help you get into Tao if needed. Hit me up and I can probably help you with bottle service as well.

Yeah it's pretty desolate out here and things don't look good. Lots of empyt spaces and buildings, but the city of Sin and it's lights look cool!

I'm staying at Lake Mead for a client conference, the Lake Las Vegas resort at the Ritz Carlton and basically it's a ghost town. From what I hear the entire resort area is in pretty bad shape.

I grew up in LV but left right after high school and only go back infrequently. It was a crappy town to grow up in in the 80s and it's really not much different now (though 4x bigger).

I'm up in Reno. My only love for LV is that that's where the money comes from for the state's budget. I don't "get" the LV vacation at all, but I'm glad a lot of you do, and I wish more of you would go! My daughter starts high school next year and I'm sure hoping there's a local university option left by the time she graduates...

As far as I could tell, the strip was alive and well. At the nightclubs and pool parties people were sucking down the 14 dollar drinks like water.

I've spent a lot of time in Vegas over the past 20 years but I don't really it anymore. You used to be able have a good time on the cheap if you lost all of your gambling money. Now, I don't want to even gamble because everything else is so damn expensive. I took someone with me and I never spent less than $90 for the two of to eat lunch or less $150 for dinner the whole time we were there until I left the Casino (Aria) property. I walked in a lounge at the Bellagio and dropped $32 for a two martinis and mine wasn't very good; then saw a guy order a $9 Diet Coke.

Why does Vegas always say it never closes and then every place I've stayed at recently close their pool around 5-6pm? I know the answer but think it's BS. The "famous" Palms pool won't even allow a sealed bottle of water to enter the pool area so they can charge you $10 for one and then when it's 105 degrees in July they close it down before 6pm! Aria was better with their rules but still close early. The golf is even over-priced. The same quality course in Texas is half what it is in Vegas.

Anyway, hope you have fun in Vegas...I have but I think it was my last time. Going to the islands is now cheaper and more fun to me.

Justin the Ritz at Lake Las Vegas closes tomorrow, thats why the area is a ghost town. The whole area is on bankruptcy right now, completely mismanaged, such a shame, it was a great place to go a couple years ago on Friday and Saturday nights when they had free concerts out there.

As far as the rest of Vegas it is slowly getting busier. Everyone is very optimistic but no one is going on record to talk about it. Our banquet business has gone from a budget of 50 million at the begining of the year to 70 million as of this month. Bar another catistrophic event hopefully it continues to grow. Next years forecast is looking even busier right now.

A lot of the casinos are realizing some of the things everyone is talking about and starting to reduce prices on a lot of amenitites/services, but if you are going to go to the pools at the Hard Rock or the Palms you are still going to pay a premium, classic case of supply and demand.

Yeah I found this out while staying at the property. I should have snagged both robes and some towels!

Nice area, it's a shame it has to close. Even the golf course was closed.

Mike, my parents just got back from vegas and stayed at Aria. They said it was amazing. When you check in, ask if they have any suite upgrades available because my parents were able to upgrade for only $50 more a night into a 1000 sq foot room. Pretty good deal and would be a nice touch for the wifes bday.

If you had a choice would you stay at the Bellagio or the new Aria? Money not being a deciding factor and comporable sized rooms.

If you just go by reviews online the bellagio would be the easy choice. I booked at Aria because it is brand new and something different. Could be good could be bad. I will let you know in about three weeks. One of the main compaints about Aria is the check in and if you book a sky suite you get different check in area with a complimentry bar. Another complaint is that the hotel is too dark. I haven't stayed there yet but from walking through it, I thought it looked awsome. In that way it just fits my style.

Well just got back from vacation and needed a week to recover from our vegas trip.

Aria was everything I thought it would be. The penthouse was almost 1500 square feet and had floor to ceiling windows in every room including the bathroom. We faced out toward the strip and had the most amazing view. We were on the 34th floor it was the best view I have ever had from a room in vegas. The other great thing about the sky suites was the use of the lounge. We would go down to the lounge and fill up large cups with grey goose take it to the room and then make cocktails up there. The limo driver met us right on time at the bag check and was very friendly. I would definately stay in the sky suites again. Actually we are going to when we go back. We will probably just get corner suite instead of the penthouse because we went all out for the birthday this last time and I think the corner suite would fit our needs. My brother in law also got a normal room at the hotel and we were able to check it out. It was very nice as well. He did mention that check in sucked though.

On friday we ended up going to Mix, which is a lounge on top of The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. It was free cover and you can use any table until 10PM then it goes to bottle service. This place has the best view of the strip. I will post some pics later but the view is so spectatular it looks fake. Really cool place I would suggest you check it out if you are looking for something a little mello one night. The rest of friday night is kind of a blur. I just remember getting up from the poker table at 5AM and thinking what am I doing here?

Saturday we went to the pool at Aria and I will say if you are going to go to the pool get there early. It filled up quickly and the service there sucked. The cocktail waitress did not comve around very often and had a little bit of a tude. We actually went to the restraunt to order food and bring it back to our lounge chairs and it took well over an hour. Also when we left the pool the line at the bar had to be thirty people deep. They need to open up some new bars or they are going to have a revolt. After the pool went up and used the steam shower to try and get rid of my hangover. That thing rocks.

Saturday night started out going to craftsteak. And I will admit I was a little hungover still from the night before. But I was not impressed. The service was a little slow. The lobster bisques supposed to be their signature dish was only ok. The steaks were good but not great. For close to two hundred bucks a person I was expecting more. Everyone kind of thought the same. Next time I will just go to the palm which is about half the price and I think the food and service is better.

After leaving Craftsteak we headed over to Tryst. At this point I was starting to slow down. The two hours of sleep I was working on was starting to catch up to me. I didn't know if I was even going to have a good time at the club. Well as soon as we arrived at Tryst that all changed. First off Steve Johnson our host was amazing he had been keeping me updated. He was great to deal with. He informed me early in the day that Tryst was sold out and we needed to get there early to make sure we got a good table. When we got there at 10 we were let into the club within five minutes. We were actually the first people let into the club. The bouncer even said you guys must have the hook up to get in like this. This place was amazing. Words can't even describe it. I am not a big club person but it was a great experience. There are a lot of debates over bottle service but I would do it again in a minute. Unlike craftsteak I felt like it was worth the money for a special occassion. Steve the Host must have checked on us at least five times throughout the night. We also had some unexpected friend show up later. He made sure they were in the club with in five minutes and were escorted to our table. We ended taking down two bottles of goose and thankfully avoiding a third. We got out of the club a little after three. Everything about this place was awsome from the waterfall, to the sound system to the service. Tryst was just amazing.

What was not amazing was the morning after. Trying to get my wife up and out of that room was some work. I ended up just throwing all our crap in our bag and preying that I grabbed everything. We were hungover for about three days and when I was there I probably got a total of six hours sleep but it was definately worth it. We are ready to go back!

I will post some pics later.
