Just looking for opinions on which board will go bigger WITHOUT a lot of input! I hate trying to ollie at the wake....never seem to time that just right. I ride an LF Team 139 now. W2W I stay pretty flat...4'or 6' tops.

The ibex is specificly made to pop you way up in the air. Try it

Ibex is fast with hard landing because of the flat bottom... The CWB Marius really POPY, Watson popy, Slingshot recoil... My top 3 for W2W pop

If your getting 6 foot on w2w i'd say you are popping just fine.

Obrien Player or Natural...easy to go large without a lot of effort.

id say its really not the board ( umali i beat you too it) its your technique that will get you the most air.:-)

however finding a board you are comfortable on and works with your style and technique will excelerate you getting more consisten big air sooner..

so demo all of them and you will know on the first few hits if its a board for you or not.

spend time on your current board working in technique. a board isnt gonna make much difference

DAYUMMIT! YOU BEAT ME TOO!

I would say 80% technique 20% board maybe even less.

Thanks for the input! I do need to demo some of these. I used the old Umali "elbows in, handle low" advice to get W2W down a few years ago! But yeah technique is an issue too. I use a "pre-load" technique to go bigger in moto....and I fully understand that the concepts are similar. That may be my hang up! The whole standing sideways and not hearing RPM's thing while pre-loading bugs me.

I was going to beat all of you.... But decided not to, hahahaha.

Anyways, best bet is to get a 3 stage, if you want pop, and then work on technique. Technique is the best way to get pop... Just hold your edge and stand tall... A slight piece of advice I can't follow myself, but you get the idea.

FoxrepDC (foxrepdc) ...What bike do you have... Im on an 08 CRF250R.... best bike in the world imo
Old    FoxrepDC (foxrepdc)      Join Date: Oct 2005       02-19-2009, 8:43 AM Reply
Dave...I'm on an 07 CRF250. It's a Pro Circuit team bike....fully mod. RIPS! I didn't touch a bike for a LONG time and just wanted something to goof around and this one is perfect. I've raced every brand except KTM in the past and this is the easiest bike to ride I've ever ridden.

So I keep hearing "technique"! I do have this thing going on that I can't wrap my brain around as to how to stop it....but I seem to charge really hard to the wake and lose a lot when I leave the water. Same sensation as shutting off at the face of a dirt jump. I focus on edging all the way through like we're all told to do, but....and I don't mean to sound like I get nothing or that I'm a total kook. I just want to go bigger and with the down economy, I figure folks have time to sit on here and rap with me about it! PLus..I haven't "Wakeworld'd" in a while so...

"I hate trying to ollie at the wake....never seem to time that just right"

if your trying to ollie at the wake then that is huge problem... you should be loading the line, and then standing tall as you ride up the wake.

but as far as board advice goes i would look into something with a 3 stage rocker. the byerly monarch has a blended 3 stage which means the side edges is a continuous rocker but the bottom is a 3 stage. this will give you the speed and smooth cuts your used to with your team LF but will give you the more abrupt, upward pop of a 3 stage.

Keep your board and get more ballast.

I've only ridden a handful of boards, but first impressions are that my 08 Ronix One is pops the best out of any others that I have personally tried thus far. I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on this board as well.

Justin,
I ride the DHV1 (same shape as the one) and I love how it pops too. I wouldn't say that it is the best board for wake to wake air though. The thing I like most about it is that when you just coast in it pops straight up, and when you really charge the wake it will pop you up and out.
The best wake to wake popping board I have ridden is the watson.
But then I do agree with the guys who say that technique accounts for most of your pop.
I can pop big on my DHV1 but I could pop just as big on my covin, the DHV1 just requires less effort to go straight up.

Go get yourself a CWB Transcend 142. Bigger board more pop! Landing 20-30 feet out into the flats on this board is cakes! Pillow Soft. Carries awesome speed once you land. Been riding this model and shape for 4 seasons now...been lovin it

142 Recoil.... once you figure out loading the board it snaps harder than ANYTHING else I have ever been on, hands down.

The pop is nuts.

LF Watson is a big popping 3-stage and has remained one of the best selling models for 4-5 years.

you could drill holes in your board to make it lighter.

FoxRep DC, I was having the same problem this summer. I rode behind our 08 Tige' without ballast. I rode a CWB Marius, and I think the problem is that a Tige' wake is really rampy and flat. We just got a 09 X-45 and I am hoping the wake will be steeper.

As for the boards, I have heard really good things about the Ronix Ibex and Mana. The pop on the Marius is good coming in flat.

Gotta jump on the Monarch bandwagon. MONARCH!!!

But, technique is gonna get you 80% there. At least. I used to never be able to get good pop on whatever I rode until one day it just clicked. And once you "get it" it's such a huge difference. It's all in the line tension is all I can say.

Man thanks for all the input guys! I think I'm gonna get some new boots and invest in a lesson or two instead of a board as soon as temps are up. I've seen the word "technique" more than anything.....if that doesn't work I'll try the Monarch.....saw that word a lot too!
