I broke my ankle twice this year and am looking to buy some new stiffer bindings for '09. I currently ride '08 watsons and love them but i think they may have contributed to the ankle fractures because of the amount of flex they allow. Please give me some good feedback...thanks

Try the 2009 Ronix Cells or the Hyperlite Atlas boots. Both are super stiff

I now ride the Shanes because i like the flex of them, but if your looking for a real rigid boot, i did ride the Atlas (3DS at the time) and they were really stiff. I've tried the CWB Zues and they have a rreally HIGH and stiff wrap. I'd put my opinion right with Twan above. Cells and Atlas. I would say try the Zues boots and see what you think too.

I would disagree on the Atlas, broke mine wearing them, way too much flex. Ronix One IMO have great support.

I think that stiffer bindings are more dangerous for the knees because during a fall, you can't split the torsion between 2 articulations (knees and ankles)! When your ankle takes 30% or more of the torsion, it gives you a chance to not blow up your knees!!! (my point)

I liked riding the zeus' bc they really lock in your heel and they have really great high ancle support, and I never had a problem of not ripping out of them on hard falls!

Ryan, do this workout for your ankles. Stand on one foot and bend your knee so its not locked out. Then close your eyes. Just stand there and dont jump around. This will build up all those small muscles in your ankle for stability. When you get better at it move to a bosu ball or something similar. As far as bindings, the best I have seen are the slingshot's when it comes to ankle support.

I was at Radar Lake and talked to Chad Sharpe abt the '09 Cell bindings and he said there was a reason he hasn't blown any knees and its b/c his boots give such great ankle support..proof is in the puddin Nick why so harsh on the cell boots?

Hey Ryan, From riders / selling them...seem to find most riders go for Hyperlite Atlas Boots, Ronix Cell Boots, or Watsons. If you want to hold out, Phillip's new boot offers ways you can change the stiffness on the upper ankle...but volume wise, I think the Atlas is what most riders with issues similar to yours have gone to. CWB Zeus.. no question have had 3 ankle surgery’s in the last 4 years and this year has been great got them at the beginning of the year summer and have not had issues since. I re-laced them with thicker laces and used better clips they are great.

+1 for the D2. I have three pairs now... they are the best. Way better then the 07 and 08 Watson and light years ahead of the HL 3DS 07 I used to have.

Cells are by far the most anckle support I've felt in a boot. I messed my ankles up a bit last year and having cells treated them great, I was riding with full support and no pain.

I have had the ankle problem since 99' after 5 years of comming short on tantrums and Raleys, my ankles were shot (and still are). Its been a long time since I found a binding that did not have a forward lean (any pressure on the top crease of my ankle just kills). This is the most important thing for me in bindings - I could care 2-bits less on appearance as long as the support is great and no forward lean. I run a boardshop and found the best binding with no lean and great support to be 08 Murrays. 2nd up would be the Slingshot D2's.

5th that for the SLINGSHOT D2's. Removable ankle brace, Intuition heat moldable liner, dual stage lacing, and pretty stiff. One of the best boots on the market.
