There are several collegiate wakeboard clubs in our area. My question is: are there any successful high school wakeboard clubs. I have been trying to help some kids get something started at our local high school but we are running into roadblocks. Liability is the main issue and whether or not liability falls on the boat owner or the school. Any thoughts or insight on this?

Make it an independent non-profit that is loosely affiliated with the school and get your own liability coverage through the WWA. We started a college club as a 501(c)(7) and it worked great, you just have to run it right. There is no easy way around the roadblocks, you just have to take it a different direction.

That is the whole purpose of what USA Wakeboard is about. USA is a member of the United States Olympic Committee and they have all the tools you need. Most schools have a protocal forming new clubs but its pretty easy. Simply ask for the guidelines of forming a club sport from the athelitic director of the school.

You may set up a club with USA for $75.00 The annual insurance + 9 issue publication is $40.00 for those under 25.

We have a full time specialist to help you or you may call Melanie Hanson at 863-324-4341

Im on the board of directors as a volunteer but you can call my cell 765-744-6310 and I can help you out
