So I watched The Book tutorial on the backroll and I really want to try it. I've never done an invert before and have a strong feeling I'm gonna screw up really bad when I attempt it.

Any pointers on getting over the fear, or, any easy way to explain doing the backroll so I can just attempt it without overthinking it? (The Book had a lot to say and reminding yourself of every little thing it mentioned while on the water when you're afraid of attempting it doesn't make it seem easier)

I will say I have not landed it yet, but if you go to they have a FREE sample video you can watch on the HS backroll. I saw it for the first time yesterday went out and tried what they talked about. I have to say it help because it was the first time I've landed on my board but I didn't ride away. They talk about slowing the boat down so you want hurt your self.

I had the same problem as you, so I just tried the Mexican Backroll which I landed the first day.

start easy, build your edge progressively, try to edge away from the boat at the bottom of the wake, stand tall and put your back ear to your back shoulder off the top.

Slow the boat down to about 17-18mph and try it 1 wake to help your self build confidence.

Backroll falls are no big deal, when your learn 3's and 5's the falls will be much worse

rode away on my 3rd attempt. Commit to a few, and the fear is gone.

the way i got over it was trying the first one, i basiclly threw it and let go of the rope. eating crap and realizing that i have taken harder falls trying to go wake to wake. landed the 6th one. when i try new tricks especially when im nervous about them i will throw them and let go of the rope.
